The Sr. EHS Engineer is a seasoned professional responsible for leading all Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at the plant. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHA, EPA and CTPAT requirements. The Sr. EHS Engineer will independently lead the EHS pillar of Wahl Operations Systems, empowering a culture of safety ownership, risk prevention, and continuous improvement across all levels of the organization. Driven through Wahl Way Values, a strong advocate for people development, mentors and trains employee to build EHS capability throughout the plant, ensuring sustainable systems and proactive safety behaviors.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Leadership & Strategy- Lead the EHS pillar under the world class manufacturing (WCM) framework, driving systematic improvement in safety and environmental performance.
- Develop and deploy the site EHS strategy, policies, and standards aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a coach and mentor to EHS specialist, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to strengthen safety leadership and capability.
- Promote a proactive, "zero-incident" culture through engagement, awareness, and accountability at all levels.
Compliance & Systems Management- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHA, EPA and CTPAT standards through effective systems, audits, and documentation.
- Conduct internal audits, lead corrective actions, and ensure readiness for external and regulatory inspections.
- Manage reporting and recordkeeping related to incidents, environmental metrics, and regulatory submissions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS regulations and ensure site compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement- Lead risk assessments (JHAs, HAZOPs, environmental impact studies) and ensure mitigation plans are implemented effectively.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce workplace risks, energy consumption, waste, and environmental impact.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering teams on machine safety, ergonomics, and safe design standards.
- Analyze EHS data to identify trends and prioritize preventive actions.
Training & People Development- Develop and deliver training programs on EHS systems, behavior-based safety, and emergency response.
- Empower teams to take ownership of safety and environmental standards through tier meetings, kaizens, and recognition systems.
- Mentor employees to build a pipeline of EHS talent capable of leading future improvement initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response- Oversee emergency response programs, drills, and crisis management readiness.
- Lead investigations of safety incidents, environmental releases, and near-misses using root cause analysis tools.
- Ensure effective communication and follow-up of preventive and corrective actions.
