Senior Director, Facilities & Engineering - JLLWhat this job involves: The Senior Director, Facilities & Engineering is the single point of contact for their assigned areas of responsibility, acting as a pivotal service provider liaison and ensuring the comprehensive delivery of Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) and workplace services. This role is critical in driving technical and operational excellence across the portfolio, ensuring safe, code-compliant, functional, comfortable, energy-efficient, and attractive facilities and site infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team to exceed all MSA KPIs, achieve contractual budget goals, and foster a trusted advisor status with the client through continuous improvement and transformative solutions. This role reports directly to the Account Executive and partners closely with the client's Facilities and Engineering teams.
What your day-to-day will look like:Strategic Leadership & Operations
- Provide visionary leadership to facility managers, engineers, and staff across multiple North American sites, fostering a collaborative "Safety First" culture while developing team members and establishing clear SMART objectives aligned with account goals.
- Oversee comprehensive IFM service delivery with focus on reliability maintenance programs to eliminate equipment downtime, managing complex utilities including high-pressure steam plants, boilers, chillers, compressed air systems, and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Conduct engineering assessments to identify risks and improvement opportunities, leading teams to analyze failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective action plans while collaborating with client operations teams on asset reliability strategies.
Financial Management
- Develop annual operating budgets, manage expenses to exceed savings targets, provide monthly variance analysis and forecasts, and ensure competitive bidding processes and financial controls are rigorously followed.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines while ensuring team participation in benchmarking activities to validate performance and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
Compliance & Safety
- Establish robust compliance culture for operations within highly regulated GMP manufacturing environments, ensuring adherence to all JLL policies, cardinal safety rules, and ethical standards while maintaining "audit ready" status.
- Ensure all staff and vendor partners consistently meet EHS, GMP, SLA, KPI, and SOW requirements while maintaining compliance with portfolio-wide initiatives and all local, state, and federal regulations.
Client Relations & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as primary JLL Client Relationship Manager, building strong relationships with key stakeholders and acting as trusted advisor providing strategic guidance on reliability best practices and operational excellence.
- Proactively measure and manage client feedback through formal and informal meetings, regularly communicating progress, results, and value delivered through IFM and reliability programs.
Project Management & Innovation
- Oversee campus maintenance projects and "gray area" initiatives, delivering cost-competitive, resource-efficient solutions for high-volume facility projects according to client specifications and timelines.
- Drive continuous improvement culture by identifying and implementing innovative solutions, supporting vendor consolidation initiatives, encouraging staff innovation submissions, and actively seeking scope expansion opportunities.
- Manage scope transitions following established JLL processes, developing KPIs and SLAs for all managed services while leveraging industry-leading tools and technologies to enhance asset performance and optimize maintenance practices.
Required Experience & Skills:- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Business and/or Engineering degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in project, maintenance, and operations within GMP/GXP/regulated spaces and processes.
- Highly attuned people management skills, with proven ability to oversee all areas of operations and maintenance, and collaborate closely with senior site client, engineering, and client capital project managers.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, methodologies, and tools including, but not limited to, safety, reliability, root cause analysis, agile, lean, Six Sigma, and sustainability.
- Extensive experience managing the operation and maintenance of complex utility systems.
- Exceptional client relationship management experience, with a track record of building trusted advisor status.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proven track record of identifying and addressing critical operational and reliability issues.
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan aligned with firm and client goals.
- Exceptional supplier partner management experience.
- Strong project management skills, including overseeing various maintenance and small-dollar projects.
- Knowledge of Energy Reduction and Sustainability Programs.
- Experience in driving OSHA compliant safety programs and maintaining environmental compliance related to facility operations (Air, Water, Waste Management).
- Experience in supporting compliant Environmental, Health, and Safety training programs related to facility management operations.
- Knowledge of standard business and accounting practices, with strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data.
Location: South San Francisco, CA (site-based role)

Estimated compensation for this position:215,000.00 - 245,000.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
