About This Role:
Position Summary

The Senior Director, Advanced Technologies & Innovation serves as the execution leader and principal architect responsible for translating strategic innovation priorities into funded product opportunities and validated technology programs for iRhythm's next-generation or early upstream technologies.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical & Scientific Officer and EVP, Advanced Technologies, this leader will drive the needs finding, landscape exploration and idea sourcing, conception, feasibility, and translation of new capabilities across AI, sensors, digital biomarkers, and data science into differentiated clinical and commercial solutions that are readied for product development.This highly visible role sits at the intersection of science, medicine, technology, and business strategy - defining the upstream innovation roadmap, exploring inorganic and organic solutions to fit the needs and corporate strategy theses, and leading execution from ideation to product concept and charter. The leader operates as an extension of executive leadership team, as the steward of the Innovation Committee, and acts as a key integrator across the business, driving complex cross-functional initiatives across Product, Business Development, R&D, Science, Regulatory, Clinical, Commercial, and Corporate Strategy organizations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to create organizational momentum, drive decision-making across stakeholders with competing priorities, and independently advance initiatives without requiring detailed executive direction. Success in this role requires exceptional initiative, influence, organizational leadership, and execution under ambiguity. The Senior Director is expected to drive initiatives through early-stage gating from concept through investment decision and transition into product development.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Innovation Portfolio
• Drive execution of early-stage technology initiatives aligned with corporate strategy, clinical priorities, and platform vision.
• Translate innovation strategy into actionable, de-risked workstreams, pilots, feasibility studies, validation programs, and partnership opportunities.
• Own timelines, resource allocation, milestone delivery, and executive reporting across the Advanced Technologies portfolio. For cross-functional work, establish clear ownership, timelines, and accountability mechanisms for strategic initiatives and ensure commitments are met, with the opportunity to build a nimble Advanced Technology project and program capability to support portfolio execution.
• Develop business cases and strategic recommendations supporting investment decisions.
• Lead strategic assessments of emerging technologies, AI capabilities, digital biomarkers, sensors, and adjacent healthcare innovations.
Leadership & Organizational Influence
• Serve as the primary operational leader for the Innovation Committee and Advanced Technologies function
• Act as a delegated representative of executive leadership for Advanced Technology across Product, Business Development, Engineering, Science, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.
• Independently drive alignment, accountability, and decision-making across stakeholders with competing priorities.
• Establish milestones, deadlines, and decision frameworks that maintain organizational momentum.
• Escalate decisively when initiatives stall or require executive intervention.
• Create forward progress without requiring detailed direction or continuous oversight.
Product Concept Development & Investment Readiness
• Lead development of investment-grade Product Concept Documents.
• Define clinical need, target customer, workflow integration, technical feasibility, regulatory pathway, evidence strategy, commercialization approach, and business rationale.
• Drive cross-functional review, executive evaluation, and funding recommendations.
• Guide upstream discovery and early development of AI, algorithms, digital biomarkers, wearable technologies, and new product verticals
• Successfully transition approved concepts into funded product development programs.
Business Development, Partnerships & M&A
• Work closely with Business Development and Corporate Strategy to lead strategic partnership evaluations, licensing opportunities, and external innovation assessments.
• Support diligence and technical/scientific evaluation of acquisition opportunities.
• Develop relationships with academic collaborators, startups, technology partners, and healthcare systems.
• Support integration planning and strategic execution of approved transactions and partnerships.
Clinical, Scientific & Technical Leadership
• Collaborate with Medical, Science, Clinical Research, Engineering, and Data Science teams to evaluate emerging technologies
• Translate clinical and medical innovation concepts into technical feature explorations in collaboration with Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams. Work closely with technical leads to prototype, test, and iterate new solutions
• Integrate input from regulatory, clinical, and commercial stakeholders to ensure feasibility and path to market.
• Work with Product Management Emerging Products and Growth group who is the recipient of the Product Concept Document and will lead product development after approval and charter.
• Support feasibility assessments, validation studies, protocols, and evidence generation activities.
• Translate clinical needs into technical opportunities and technical capabilities into product opportunities.
• Integrate regulatory, commercial, and operational considerations into technology evaluations.
• Manage Advanced Technology budget and headcount as part of operating plan; manage incremental small-scale budgets for pilots, feasibility studies, and compute/tooling resources.
• Partner with Medical Affairs, Science, and Clinical Research to define and execute clinical evidence strategies that support technology validation and adoption.
• Contribute to competitive landscape assessments and market analyses to inform prioritization and positioning.
• Demonstrated proficiency with modern AI tools, including large language models (LLMs) and agentic systems (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic), with the ability to integrate these technologies into daily workflows to increase individual and organizational productivity. Experience designing agentic workflows, rapid prototyping concepts, developing product mockups, and leveraging AI-assisted software development tools to accelerate innovation is highly desirable.
About You
• 15+ years of leadership experience in medtech, digital health, healthcare AI, diagnostics, product innovation, or related fields; 12+ with a master's degree or 8+ with a PhD or MD
• Deep background in technology innovation, product management, or program leadership in medtech, digital health, or related industries. Cardiovascular experience is strongly preferred. Digital health experience is mandatory.
• Strong understanding of clinical workflows, unmet needs, and evolving trends in cardiovascular diagnostics, data science, digital health, deep neural networks, and foundation models.
• Exceptional analytical, strategic, and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize technical, clinical, and business perspectives into actionable strategies.
• Demonstrated success translating emerging technologies into funded programs, launched products, or measurable business outcomes.
• Proven ability to influence and deliver strategic outcomes through a combination of direct team leadership and influence across cross-functional organizations
• Strong bias toward action, execution, and decision-making.
