TheSeniorData Engineerwill advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) and Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) by developing, integrating, administering, and optimizing software applications and data platforms at NASA’s Stennis Space Center. This position will support the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical software solutions, data pipelines, data storage architectures, and analytics capabilities. Majorityoftasking is performed on-site.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering,Data Engineering/Data Science, or a related field.
Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance prior to start.
7–10+ years of experience with:
Algorithmic and software application development.
Structured programming development using Configuration Management (CM) toolssuch as Git or Subversion.
Python programming experiencewith an understanding of modern data processing libraries such as Polars and/or Pandas, Pydanticand related toolsets.
XML and JSONformats as well asinteraction with librariesthat support interaction with these formats.
Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript experience.
Understands data velocity, volume, variety, and veracity concepts.
Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets in operational environments.
Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and database design principles.
Experienced with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help accelerate performance.
Preferred Qualifications
Security+ Certification.
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELTprocesses using programming skills.
Experience building and maintaining large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and analytics workflows.
Experience with data orchestration and automation tools.
Knowledge of data governancebestpractices.
Strong background in working withmulti-parameter, time-based data series with preference towardsMeteorology and Oceanographydatasets.
Experienced in ESRI Technologies such as Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro / Desktop tools and ESRI Workflow Manager.
Experience with Cybersecurity best practices and DISA STIG checklists.
Experience withcontainer technologies and cloud platforms.
Knowledge of RDBMS databases such as PostgreSQLwithPostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle.
Experience inintegrating geospatial data systems with enterprise data platforms and APIssuch as NOAA’sEnvironmental Research Division's Data Access(ERDDAP) platform.
Responsibilities
Design and maintain scalable data architectures, pipelines, and automated workflows.
Integrate data from diverse operational, scientific, and geospatial sources into enterprise systems.
Ensure data quality, integrity, availability, and security across the data lifecycle.
Collaborate with scientists, analysts, software developers, and mission stakeholders to deliver data-driven capabilitiesHelp lead the design, development,testing, deployment, and sustainment of software applications supporting NAVOCEANO and CNMOC missions.
Support modernization efforts involving cloud technologies, geospatial systems, and advanced analytics platforms.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and best practices.
