Full Job Description
About the Role

Loop is seeking a Senior Counsel or Associate General Counsel (title and level commensurate with experience) to serve as a generalist legal partner across every part of our business as we scale. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will own a broad portfolio spanning commercial contracting, privacy and AI, payments and regulatory, employment, corporate governance, and disputes - providing business-forward advice, managing risk, and building the templates, playbooks, and processes that let a small legal team support a fast-growing company. Most in-house roles at this level ask you to go deep in one lane; this one is deliberately the opposite. You will work directly with senior executives across Finance, Product, Engineering, People, Sales, and Operations, represent Loop externally in negotiations with customers, partners, and vendors, and see the full picture of the business. For the right attorney, this is a career-defining opportunity to take genuine ownership across multiple practice areas and grow into a global legal role as Loop scales.

This is an in-person role based in one of our US-based offices (New York, Chicago or San Francisco), with the expectation of being onsite 4 days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements - including customer, vendor, partnership, technology, SaaS, and data agreements, NDAs, DPAs, and terms of service - to secure favorable terms and protect Loop's interests
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels and across all departments to identify and manage legal risk and devise creative solutions that advance the company's interests
  • Serve as a trusted legal partner to Product and Engineering, advising on privacy, data rights, regulatory compliance, and legal risk in product development, and reviewing new features and initiatives to identify issues early and build solutions that support the business
  • Help shape Loop's approach to AI-related legal and regulatory considerations, including data licensing, model training and deployment, and responsible AI governance frameworks
  • Advise on legal, regulatory, and compliance considerations for the payments and cash flows moving through Loop's platform, partnering with Finance, Product, and the payments team as we build out payments infrastructure
  • Support corporate governance and transactions, including board resolutions and written consents, equity and financing workstreams, entity management, and M&A diligence and transaction documents as they arise
  • Manage litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters - directing outside counsel, supporting pre-litigation risk assessment and early resolution, and keeping the General Counsel informed on strategy and exposure
  • Support the People and Talent teams on employment matters across US and international jurisdictions, including hiring, terminations, leave policies, workplace investigations, employment agreements, and contractor arrangements, and help build compliant employment frameworks as headcount grows
  • Develop and continuously improve legal templates, playbooks, policies, and processes that support scalable, efficient workflows across every functional area
  • Support the build of an AI-powered legal department by evaluating, adopting, and overseeing AI-powered legal tools in a compliant, efficient, and scalable way

About You

  • JD from an accredited law school and admission and membership in good standing in at least one US state bar
  • 6+ years of legal experience, with a foundation of rigorous training at a law firm and/or in-house legal department; candidates considered at the Associate General Counsel level will typically bring 8+ years, including experience directing outside counsel and supporting board and transaction workstreams
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements (e.g., customers, vendors, data providers, platforms, contractors)
  • Exposure across multiple practice areas - M&A, corporate, commercial, privacy and data, employment, or litigation - and a genuine appetite to build depth in the ones you haven't touched yet
  • Excellent business judgment and intellectual curiosity, with the ability to calibrate and balance legal and business requirements and a knack for explaining complex legal concepts in plain terms
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited direction - prioritizing your workload, turning requests around quickly, and driving high-value projects to completion with impeccable attention to detail
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where the playbook often does not exist yet. Startup or early stage company experience preferred, but not required.
  • Excited to build a legal function from vision through execution, creating the foundations needed to scale with the business.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is $180,000-$250,000 annually. This range reflects the base pay that Loop reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of hire. Actual compensation will depend on job-related factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, location, and business needs.

In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an annual performance bonus and equity. This role is also eligible for Loop's benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) match, flexible, unlimited paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave.
