Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct tests to evaluate machine performance and human factors data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to articulate findings in an accessible way.
  • Create visual exhibits to communicate complex engineering concepts effectively.
  • Support business development efforts to expand client outreach.
  • Offer expert testimony as needed during legal proceedings.

Full Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Evaluates root causes in industrial, transportation, and consumer product accidents.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
  • Identifies and reviews existing media (e.g., photographs, video, witness statements, depositions, police and OSHA reports, drawings, etc.) to develop preliminary conclusions and plan further investigation.
  • Conducts inspections of accident scenes and of involved or exemplar machines, safety equipment, consumer products, and other items as needed.
  • Locates, assesses pertinence of, and applies consensus safety standards, scientific literature, existing test data, and governmental regulations.
  • Designs and conducts testing and/or develops models to obtain and evaluate machine performance or human factors data.
  • As part of a team, conducts risk assessments or job safety analyses for a variety of products and industrial machines.
  • Prepares written reports and verbal presentations of findings and conclusions in clear, concise, and easy-to-understand terms.
  • Prepares exhibits with visualization group to clearly communicate complex engineering concepts.
  • Works with Business Development to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
  • Gives expert witness testimony at deposition or trial, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licenses
  • Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field required.
  • Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Experimental or Cognitive Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • CHFP (Certified Human Factors Professional), CPE (Certified Professional Ergonomist), or CUXP (Certified User Experience Professional) desirable.

Experience
  • Five to ten years work experience in a forensic or safety consulting position. Related educational experience will also be considered.
  • Must have completed academic coursework or received comparable certification in the following topics: human factors, neuropsychology, engineering, human-computer interaction, product design, occupation biomechanics, cognitive engineering and/or work physiology.
  • Experience in MATLAB, psychoPy, and R and the ability to design and write original computational models of human performance and statistical analysis code is desirable.

The pay range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer most candidates for this role. Total compensation includes a competitive base salary and bonus opportunity, with final pay determined by job-related factors such as experience, qualifications, individual performance, and overall company performance.

After internal discussions and market research, the current pay band for this opportunity is $110,000 to $180,000

Physical Demands

This role requires frequently sitting or standing for extended periods of time and occasionally lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with infrequent lifting up to 75 pounds. The work regularly requires bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and maintaining balance. This position frequently requires handling and operating specialized tools and equipment and working in a variety of physical positions, including occasionally accessing tight or confined spaces.
