Full Job Description
The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to join our growing Edmonton office. In this role you will be a key contributor within the Highways Division helping us expand our project management and construction supervision services for existing and prospective clients throughout Alberta. You will work closely with our team of project managers, designers, surveyors, and other support staff to deliver capital projects across Alberta and Western Canada.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong technical and project management skillset and is ready to take on more responsibility in project delivery, client coordination, and mentoring junior team members.

This position is primarily located remotely on-site and will be supported from McElhanney's Edmonton office. Candidates based elsewhere in Alberta or Western Canada may also be considered.

This role is designated as a safety sensitive position.

What You'll Do
  • Leading components of roadway, intersection, and other transportation construction projects as the on-site Construction Inspector
  • Reviewing internal and third-party submittals and deliverables including: design drawings and details, shop drawings, reports, memos, letters, and other submittals.
  • Preparing technical reports, design briefs, cost estimates, and tender documents.
  • Coordinating with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams to support project delivery.
  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team to successfully manage and deliver construction assignments.
  • Participating in proposal development, scope definition, and level-of-effort estimates.
  • Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists.


What You'll Bring
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline OR a diploma for Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline is an asset.
  • Registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA (or eligibility for registration) OR registration as a C.E.T. with ASET (or eligibility for registration) is an asset.
  • Project management and project delivery experience with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is an asset.
  • Minimum 5+ years of project management or technical experience in delivery of transportation infrastructure projects in Alberta and/or Western Canada.
  • Experience with Alberta Transportation, City of Edmonton, and/or other municipal design and construction standards in Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to project planning and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a small team of technical and non-technical members towards successful project delivery.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel for field work.


What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
