Job Description:

This job is responsible for leading the most complex technical designs that enable business strategies in accordance with architectural governance, standards and policies. Key responsibilities include facilitating deployment of the most complex technical solutions by developing templates, playbooks and automation used during implementation. Job expectations include consistently looking for opportunities to improve the reliability and efficiency of implementing the services, and influencing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • We are seeking a highly experienced Senior CockroachDB Engineer to lead the design, engineering, build automation Bank's CockroachDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform. This individual will be responsible for building a secure, scalable, highly available, and automated database platform on the Bank's internal infrastructure while establishing engineering standards and best practices for enterprise-wide adoption.


Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes
  • Develops software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes and contributes to the technology strategy for end-to-end engineering solutions and provides feedback to the architecture teams
  • Translates business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policies
  • Participates in various steering committees for technical and infrastructure service domains
  • Leads the evaluation of reference models, blueprints and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Mentors and guides team members to ensure system design technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standards
  • Creates an inclusive and healthy working environment and help to resolve organizational impediments/blockers
  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of the CockroachDB DBaaS platform deployed within the Bank's internal infrastructure.
  • Build automation and self-service capabilities that enable rapid, standardized provisioning of CockroachDB clusters.
  • Design and implement high availability (active-active), fault-tolerant, and multi-region database architectures.
  • Establish engineering standards, reference architectures, operational procedures, and best practices for secure, scalable, and compliant CockroachDB deployments.
  • Drive platform reliability and operational excellence through monitoring, observability, performance tuning, capacity planning, failover automation, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Define and implement lifecycle management processes for cluster provisioning, upgrades, patching, scaling, and decommissioning.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CockroachDB related initiatives .
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and continuously improve the platform architecture, automation, and operational model.


Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with CockroachDB on Linux platforms.
  • Strong expertise with Ansible automation frameworks.
  • Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed database platforms in enterprise environments.
  • Be able to design and implement end-to-end distributed database architectures using CockroachDB with a focus on:
  • High Availability (HA)
  • Fault Tolerance
  • Multi-Region Deployments
  • Active-Active Configurations
  • Develop automation solutions for:
  • VM-based provisioning
  • Cluster deployment and configuration
  • Lifecycle management
  • Version upgrades and patching
  • Horizontal and vertical scaling
  • Implement automated monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities for CockroachDB environments.
  • Strong expertise in Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation frameworks.
  • Implement enterprise-grade security controls, including:
  • TLS encryption
  • Certificate lifecycle management
  • Vault integration
  • Key Management as a Service (KMaaS) integration
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including:
  • Consensus protocols
  • Replication
  • Quorum
  • Failover and recovery mechanisms
  • Experience integrating database automation with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to define engineering standards, operational best practices, reference architectures, and governance models for enterprise database platforms.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices is a plus
  • Experience with deploying CockroachDB on AWS public cloud is a plus
