Proper Insurance is a Managing General Agent (MGA) and a division of SPG, operating with full claims handling authority. We offer a commercial policy designed from the ground up to cover short-term rental properties - one of the fastest-growing and most nuanced segments in modern insurance.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Claims Specialist to manage a caseload of property claims weighted toward higher-complexity files - coverage disputes, large losses, and litigated claims. You'll operate with a high degree of independence, acting as a trusted authority on Proper's property coverage forms and a mentor to adjusters earlier in their careers, escalating only when a file is genuinely novel or precedent-setting.
What You'll DoCoverage Analysis & Investigation- Independently analyze complex and disputed coverage scenarios across Proper's STR property coverage forms
- Identify coverage gaps and exposure that less-experienced adjusters may miss
- Explain complex or unwelcome coverage determinations to insureds clearly and with empathy
File Management & Resolution- Own a caseload of property claims weighted toward high-complexity, large-loss, and litigation files, with latitude to carry specialty files beyond your core diary
- Act autonomously on the large majority of claim decisions; escalate only genuinely novel or precedent-setting issues
- Build and validate advanced Xactimate estimates (custom macros, profiles, sketch tools) and provide peer review for less-tenured adjusters
Customer Experience- Serve as the point of contact for insureds navigating difficult or high-stakes claims - elevating the experience and de-escalating disputes independently
- Model the communication standard the rest of the team is coached toward
Compliance & Audit Readiness- Produce exemplary, defense-ready file documentation that clearly articulates coverage positions
- Maintain a zero-miss compliance record and advise on emerging regulatory issues
Subrogation & Mentorship- Proactively investigate and preserve subrogation rights on complex property claims
- Coach and mentor less-tenured adjusters on file handling, documentation, and difficult conversations
What We're Looking For- 5+ years of property claims adjusting experience, including demonstrated experience with coverage disputes, large losses, or litigated files
- Deep working knowledge of residential or STR-specific property coverage forms
- Advanced proficiency with Xactimate, including custom macros/profiles and sketch tools
- Strong written communication skills and a track record of audit-ready documentation
- Demonstrated autonomy and sound judgment on complex claim decisions
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or peer-reviewing other adjusters
- Active adjuster license(s) as required by jurisdiction
- Experience with short-term rental, habitational, or specialty commercial property lines is a plus
CompensationThe expected salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.
