Description / Position OverviewSenior Claims AdjusterThe City of Colorado Springs is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Adjuster to join our team and manage highly complex liability claims. In this senior-level role, you will independently investigate claims, evaluate liability and damages, manage claims involving litigation, negotiate settlements, identify opportunities for subrogation and recovery, and provide leadership and guidance to Adjuster I and II staff.
You will work closely with City departments, injured parties, attorneys, insurance carriers, and other stakeholders to move claims toward timely and appropriate resolution while facilitating payments and reimbursements. This position requires strong judgment, advanced investigative and negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple complex claims while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and City policies.
This position is subject to budget required furloughs implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Senior Claims Adjuster, you will:- Investigate and manage complex to highly complex liability claims, including evaluating coverage, liability, damages, and subrogation opportunities.
- Conduct thorough investigations by interviewing injured parties, supervisors, witnesses, and other involved parties; reviewing available evidence; and conducting field investigations as appropriate.
- Analyze claim facts and applicable laws to determine liability, evaluate damages, and develop appropriate claim resolution strategies.
- Manage claims from initial investigation through resolution, maintaining accurate and timely documentation in the claims management system.
- Identify and pursue subrogation opportunities, including placing responsible third parties on notice and coordinating recovery efforts.
- Coordinate with defense counsel and litigation activities as necessary.
- Negotiate settlements and work toward appropriate resolution of claims while protecting the interests of the City.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers to obtain appropriate reimbursement and ensure claims are administered in accordance with applicable coverage requirements.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes that may affect claims administration.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Provide timely, thorough, and professional communication to claimants, attorneys, City departments, carriers, and other appropriate parties.
- Use claims data to develop dashboards, metrics, and other information that support effective claims management and decision-making.
- Provide leadership and guidance to claims adjusting team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study.
- Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
