Arup is seeking a Senior Civil Design Leader, in our Vancouver or Calgary office, to lead the delivery of complex urban corridor projects.
This role will lead multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, buildable corridor solutions, integrating roadway design, bus rapid transit, intelligent transportation systems, utilities, green infrastructure, and sustainable urban development. You will work closely with municipalities and transit agencies to deliver projects that improve transit reliability, accessibility, and resilience, while maintaining traffic operations and supporting active travel within constrained urban rights-of-way.

The opportunity In Western Canada, our work includes major urban redevelopment and corridor transformation initiatives such as the False Creek South Development Framework in Vancouver, including City of Vancouver vehicle threat mitigation and integrated public realm safety, alongside the Sunalta Corridor redesign in Calgary and broader multimodal corridor and transit-priority improvements.
More widely across Canada, our portfolio includes large-scale urban regeneration and transit-led infrastructure projects such as Bassin Wellington in Montréal, the Mississauga Downtown Mobility Hub and Transitway Connection, as well as more than a decade of complete streets design and delivery for Toronto's waterfront.
- Lead the preliminary and detailed design of urban streets and arterial corridors to create complete streets with multi-modal infrastructure
- Mentor staff and develop future leaders, providing strong technical guidance on linear and municipal infrastructure, surface water management, and utilities
- Promote collaboration across disciplines and market groups within Arup locally, regionally, and globally
- Achieve successful commercial delivery of projects
- Act as Bid Manager on civil related pursuits or contribute to wider proposals

Qualifications- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC or AB (or readily transferable)
- Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in roadway, streets, or transit corridor design
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary design teams
- Strong experience working with and delivering for public sector clients in British Columbia and/or Alberta
- Commercial awareness, including developing fee proposals and managing projects
- Desirable: background in complete streets or integrated corridor design, and experience integrating sustainability and resilience
- A practical, delivery-focused design leader who can translate client aspirations into buildable outcomes
- Strong collaborator across disciplines, partners, and clients
- Excellent communicator able to navigate complex stakeholder environments
- Ability to balance the highest technical excellence with commercial and delivery realities
- Interest in shaping transit-oriented, sustainable, and resilient urban corridors

Vancouver Hiring Range - Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Vancouver is $200,000 to $220,000 per year.
This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Vancouver will differ.
