About the Role Behind every strong retail conversation is someone who knows what the numbers are really saying. As a Sr. Category Analyst, you'll be that person for your assigned clients and retailers. You'll dig into sales, share, distribution, velocity, and promotional performance, figure out what's driving results, and turn it into the two or three insights that actually change a decision. You'll own meaningful projects from start to finish, build the dashboards and models the team relies on, and help newer analysts grow along the way.
Work Location This is a hybrid role based out of the C.A. Carlin office in Cincinnati, OH with three in-office days per week. Travel is minimal (0-10%), based on client and business needs and conference participation, and may be somewhat more frequent early in the role.
What You'll Do - Build category and brand performance analyses covering distribution, velocity, price, promotion, and assortment, and explain the drivers behind the results
- Create and maintain Power BI dashboards and Excel models using syndicated data (Circana, Numerator, Mintel), POS, and retailer portal data such as Kroger 84.516
- Use AI tools to work more efficiently and troubleshoot data and formula issues independently
- Distill complex analysis into clear, focused insights and prepare polished materials for client and retailer meetings
- Partner with Category Management, Inventory, Digital Commerce, and Schematic Management to align on client priorities, keeping stakeholders informed of progress and timelines
- Lead larger, high-priority projects and deliver them on time
- Share your knowledge of tools, process, and client context with newer team members
What You'll Bring - Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, economics, analytics, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
- 2-4 years of experience in CPG category management, sales analytics, or syndicated data
- Confident, independent use of retail math, including margin, markup, ACV, TDP, price elasticity, and lift
- Independent proficiency in Power BI, Excel, and syndicated data platforms (Circana, Numerator, Mintel) and knowledgeable of AI technology.
- An understanding of the retailer's point of view, not just the brand's
- Strong organization and time management across multiple clients and deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication, including building materials for client meetings
Nice to Have - Hands-on experience with Kroger 84.516 (Stratum) or other retailer portal data
