Full Job Description
Acts as the primary lead for external outreach to Biopharmaceutical companies to secure research alliances supporting BILH. In coordination with the Executive Director of the TVO, this role identifies strategic contact points and performs high-level outreach at key venues like JP Morgan and MassBio Pharma Days.

The Senior Business Development Manager takes an active role in supporting Harvard Faculty PIs, providing market intelligence to help align their research with industry needs and assisting in the refinement of pitch decks and development strategies. This position serves as a key outward face for the office at translational science events, occasionally leading discussion panels to promote the BILH brand and foster funding connections.

Internal responsibilities include curating the office's relational database of investigators and industry targets to ensure a streamlined approach across the BILH system. Additionally, the Senior Business Development Manager coordinates the execution of industry-sponsored mini-symposia and Hub Showcases. Working under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Senior Business Development Manager contributes to the development of work plans, and budgets for biopharma alliances, ensuring all projects align with the broader institutional mission. The ability to negotiate a finalized Work Plan and budget with the PI and target company for industry sponsored research agreements is a key capability for this position.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with the Executive Director and Senior Manager, Strategic Alliances & Business Development and faculty to interface with BIDMC's existing Biopharma connections to promote new external funding opportunities that lead to signed agreements. Maintain and expand a network of external industry business development contacts and track progress and next steps with these contacts. (essential)
  • Plans for and manages attendance at scientific, business development (BD), marketing and networking events to build network and secure new external funding opportunities with biopharmaceutical companies. Also, drives the promotion of the translational research at BIDMC, Joslin Diabetes Center and Lahey Medical Center at these events. (essential)
  • Ensures appropriate communication with external industry partners. This involves leading the coordination of meetings and conference calls and overseeing the development and dissemination of compelling written communications and slide decks to all involved parties. (essential)
  • Plans and participates in the outreach, scientific discussions, and conferences as appropriate to ensure a strong alliance with all stakeholders. (essential)
  • Leads the continuous development of the Business Development database (Airtable). Works closely with Senior Manager, Strategic Alliances & Business Development to enhance data collection, optimize the efficiency of outreach, track key performance indicators, and provide senior leadership with high-level reporting on the partnership pipeline/BD opportunities.
  • Negotiates CDAs and coordinates and supports the negotiations of sponsored research agreements. (essential)


Required Qualifications:

Education:
  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences or a related field is required.


Professional Experience:
  • 8-10 years related work experience required.
  • 4-6 years of Business Development experience, including a deal sheet showing a successful track record in making connections that lead to licensing and sponsored research agreements.
  • Strong relationship building skills necessary to develop comfortable and productive relationships with academic and industry scientists as well as life sciences business executives.
  • Well-connected with biopharma industry scientists, managers and business development scouting professionals.
  • Candidates with postdoctoral research and prior industry experience are strongly preferred.
  • General understanding of oncology, metabolic and cardiovascular, neurology, inflammatory and infectious diseases, and major therapeutic and diagnostic modalities (RNA Therapeutics, Omics, vaccines, mAbs and small molecules).
  • Strong writing skills and ability to draft and refine existing PowerPoint slides (including graphics). Results-oriented approach with follow-through.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to details.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work as a team player; able to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Proficiency in generative AI tools, using Airtable and Microsoft applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the workday do not compromise the work.

Work is varied every day, and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities. No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Pay Range:
$132,000.00 USD - $172,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
