DescriptionThe Opportunity
Deliver Building Enclosure Commissiong at a large Architect/Engineering and Construction firm.
The role has two primary objectives. First, deliver enclosure commissioning and consulting. Help win work with owners, architects, and contractors. Second, make our own construction jobs better: work with our construction and construction quality teams to bring enclosure expertise onto the projects we build, so enclosures are right the first time.
This is not a seat on someone else's team. We want an enclosure professional who is as energized by winning the work as by doing it: someone who will make a name in their market, bring in the clients, deliver the projects, and hire and grow the team around them. You will have our client relationships, our multidisciplinary teams, and a fast-growing construction business across Federal, Aviation, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Mission Critical, and Higher Education markets to grow quickly.
What You Will Do
Partner across the firm.
- Work with Burns & McDonnell construction teams, the National Director, Commissioning Managers, marketing staff, and other Global Practices to bring enclosure commissioning into our design-build and EPC projects and other pursuits.
- Partner with Burns & McDonnell construction quality teams and contractor quality staff so enclosures are built right the first time: commissioning lines up with mockups, field inspections, and testing, and deficiencies are resolved before work is covered.
Do the work.
- Lead building enclosure commissioning (BECx) and retro-commissioning for complex new and existing buildings in accordance with ASTM E2813 and NIBS Guideline 3.
- Be accountable for the results of your projects: scope, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction, from owner's project requirements through post-occupancy.
- Lead design reviews and propose practical recommendations for improvement.
- Witness on-site enclosure testing, perform field inspections, and troubleshoot enclosure performance issues on new and existing construction.
- Learn how to build and review enclosure diagnostic models in WUFI, WINDOW, and THERM.
Qualifications Required
- Degree in Architectural, Engineering, Building Construction Science, or Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program.
- 5 years of direct or related experience in building construction science, enclosure systems, enclosure testing, and enclosure commissioning or retro-commissioning.
- A track record having helped win projects, led proposals, and built client relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication; you can present to an owner's board as comfortably as you can talk details with a glazing sub.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance and/or access to secured client sites.
- Willingness to travel (typically 70%) and to inspect job sites worldwide. Completion of, or ability to obtain, an OSHA 8-hour safety course.
- Willingness to get BECx certifications and training on WUFI, WINDOW, and THERM.
- A Drive to continue to learn.
- Ability to walk job sites and climb ladders and scaffolding.
- A builder's mindset and the drive to win and deliver.
Preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).
- Working knowledge of WUFI, WINDOW, and THERM.
- Experience working with construction quality (QA/QC) teams and contractors in the field, including mockup review, inspection, and test coordination.
- IIBEC credential (such as RRC, RWC, or REWC), or the experience to obtain one within your first year.
- Hands-on knowledge of stand-alone enclosure testing equipment and the ability to evaluate and troubleshoot enclosure systems.
- Experience developing and managing work plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) or Commissioning Process certification, or the experience to obtain one within your first year.
- Experience in new construction commissioning and commissioning of retrofits.
- A forensic, design, and commissioning background: you use what you learn investigating existing enclosures to improve new design and commissioning, and the reverse.
- Experience on more than one side of the industry (consulting, third-party testing, design, or general contractor) that shows you how enclosure work is sold and delivered.
- Published articles or conference presentations on enclosure performance.
- Master's degree in building science, sustainable design, or a related field, and additional credentials such as CxA, CPHC (Passive House), or LEED AP.
- Experience in our target markets: mission critical, healthcare, laboratory, aviation, manufacturing, higher education, commercial, water/wastewater, and onsite energy.
This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
