Job Summary
The Senior API Engineer will focus on backend development, designing and building RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js within an AWS cloud environment. The role involves developing Graph APIs, implementing custom fine-grained authorization solutions, and contributing to modern cloud-based applications. This hands-on individual contributor position requires technical ownership, problem-solving skills, and effective collaboration within an Agile software engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js.
• Build and enhance backend services supporting business applications and integrations.
• Develop and enhance Graph APIs and backend GraphQL functionality, including schemas, queries, and API integrations.
• Contribute to the development of custom fine-grained authorization solutions.
• Utilize Terraform to manage and deploy infrastructure within AWS environments.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and technical leads to design scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Troubleshoot existing applications, identify defects, and implement code improvements.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical discussions, and code reviews.
• Take ownership of assigned development tasks from design through implementation.
• Support frontend development efforts when needed.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in backend or API development.
• Strong hands-on experience developing RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js.
• Experience with backend GraphQL development, including schemas, queries, and API integrations.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform for cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.
• Understanding of API architecture, system design, and backend integrations.
• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong individual contributor mindset, with the ability to take ownership of projects and deliverables.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical decisions, project experience, and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Frontend development experience with React or willingness to learn and contribute to UI development.
• Experience with API security, authorization, or fine-grained access control.
