About the Role:As a Senior Analyst, International Trade Compliance (ITC) for Planet, you will be a member of the ITC Team within Planet's global Legal organization and will have the opportunity to work on issues that may have large compliance and/or financial implications for the company. You will routinely interface with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, and other local and international personnel, as well as external counsel and vendors to mitigate compliance risks and support secure and efficient global trade licensing and operations. In this role, your primary focus area will be on compliance with export/import laws/regulations, while providing support as well for economic sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance.
The successful candidate will have solid work experience in the satellite and/or aerospace/defense industry with experience in the areas of contracting, international trade, and/or legal. The position will be responsible for integrating export/import regulations into business initiatives, enhancing Planet's global export compliance program, preparing and managing DDTC and BIS licenses/authorizations, and ensuring legal compliance to maximize business outcomes for Planet.
This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco HQ 3 days per week.
Impact You'll Own:- Providing guidance and interpretation of US government regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
- Managing the full lifecycle of export/import authorizations to support company operations, with an emphasis on supply chain and vendor hardware and technology/software export licensing, to include reviewing business documents to assist in scoping export-import authorizations to support business objectives.
- Conducting export/import training and presentations and providing formal and informal communication/guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding export/import compliance.
- Serving as interface with U.S. government agencies in support of trade compliance initiatives.
- Collaborating on the development and implementation of policies and procedures, to include internal technology control plans and shipment review procedures.
- Reviewing and approving international shipment requests.
- Working with technical subject matter experts to document export classification order of review assessments and tracking new technology developments within the company.
- Assessing export classification of technology proposed for limited or unlimited public release.
- Preparing/filing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Commodity Classification Requests, and Advisory Opinions, as needed.
- Negotiating export/import control matters with internal and external stakeholders and resolving in a win/win manner.
- Supporting with conducting compliance audits/assessments/investigations, implementing corrective actions, and drafting findings/disclosures, as needed.

What You Bring:- 4+ years of experience in international trade compliance, legal, or contracting
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Self-motivated, critical and strategic thinker with solid negotiation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
- Experience reading and applying the ITAR and EAR
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all deliverables
- Solid commitment to integrity and professionalism
- Solid ability to work independently as well as with teams
- Ability to drive results by successfully influencing and aligning stakeholders across multiple departments, even without direct reporting authority
- Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
What Makes You Stand Out:- Experience with supply chain and vendor export licensing / management
- Familiarity with navigating DECCS and SNAP-R
- Certified paralegal and/or experience in a legal environment
- Experience of working in a dynamic, startup environment
- Technical/engineering background and/or experience of applying ITAR and EAR in satellites and earth observation industry
- Professional export compliance certifications
- Experience applying ITAR and EAR controls in a global organization
- Experience working with engineers or in a technical environment

Compensation:The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
