Full Job Description
Senior Aircraft Maintenance Operations Manager, Amazon Air
Are you ready to lead the transformation of aircraft maintenance operations through Generative AI and emerging technology?
Join Amazon AIR's Network Control Center Maintenance Operations team (MXO) and shape the future of how a global fleet is maintained, optimized, and scaled.
Amazon AIR is seeking a Senior Aircraft Maintenance Operations Manager to drive operational excellence at the intersection of aviation expertise, AI/ML innovation, and data-driven strategy. In this role, you won't just manage maintenance operations, you'll architect the next generation of tools, processes, and best practices that keep Amazon's air network moving safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Operations team (MXO) is rapidly evolving, incorporating GenAI-powered analytics, real-time fleet health monitoring, and intelligent automation to move from reactive maintenance to predictive, insight-driven operations.
This is a rare opportunity to lead - not just use - AI-enabled transformation in aviation maintenance at global scale.
This role supports Amazon Air's 24/7 Network Control Center. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required as business needs evolve.
Key job responsibilities
- Oversee daily maintenance operations workflow, ensuring effective communication and coordination between maintenance providers and network operations
- Manage real-time operational decisions regarding maintenance events, aircraft swaps, and recovery scenarios to minimize network disruption and maintain schedule integrity
- Develop and drive real-time fleet health monitoring strategies and technical readiness assessments for the Amazon Air global fleet
- Drive implementation of AI/ML technologies to enhance operational maintenance strategies, leveraging GenAI tools to synthesize data and surface actionable insights
- Serve as primary contact for maintenance-related communications, developing protocols to manage service impacts and customer experience
- Create data-driven strategies to maximize maintenance On-Time Performance
- Develop and document lessons learned to continually improve maintenance operations across the network
- Champion adoption of approved AI solutions within daily workflows - evaluating emerging tools, leading pilot efforts, and providing feedback that shapes continuous process improvement
A day in the life
Your day starts with the state of the fleet: reviewing aircraft health, open maintenance events, and anything that could affect the day's flying. During disruptions, you give the NCC a clear technical picture and workable options so the network can recover quickly, and you keep carrier Maintenance Control teams and maintenance providers aligned on the plan.
Most of your time, though, goes to the problems no one has solved yet. You might be asked why a recurring delay keeps showing up across stations, or how to spot a failure trend before it grounds an aircraft. These questions rarely come with a playbook. You'll define the problem, decide which data and tools can answer it, and use the GenAI and analytics tools available at MXO to move from question to working solution faster than traditional methods allow. When something works, you turn it into a repeatable process and share it so the whole team operates at a higher level.
About the team
The Maintenance Operations team (MXO) is a team of 11 within Amazon Air's Network Control Center (NCC), the 24/7 operations hub for a network of more than 100 aircraft serving over 70 airports across North America, Europe, and Asia. Team members bring
experience from airline maintenance control, line maintenance and MRO leadership, and military aviation. MXO connects our carrier partners' Maintenance Control teams and external maintenance providers with network operations. When an aircraft has a
maintenance issue, MXO gives the NCC the technical status, options, and timelines it needs to decide how the network responds, then keeps maintenance partners and stakeholders aligned through recovery.
Beyond daily operations, MXO is moving maintenance from reactive to predictive by adopting real-time fleet health monitoring, GenAI-powered analytics, and intelligent automation.
We look for sound technical judgment under pressure and people who leave a process better than they found it.
