About the role
We're looking for a
Senior AI Developer - Experience with Python, Spark/PySpark, Databricks (including Unity Catalog), and AWS to join our growing team!
What you'll do here:
- Build the path from discovery to production. Make sure data scientists can write a model once (in Python or PySpark) and have it run cleanly on both Databricks batch jobs and real-time Kafka streams. No rewrites, and keep technical debt low.
- Contribute to delivery. Work with the Platform PO and Program Systems Business Analyst to turn architecture ideas into real sprint work. Write and review code, keep quality high, and help migrate legacy services toward modern, event-driven setups.
- Raise the bar on MLOps. Team up with DevOps and QA on testing, model versioning (MLflow, Unity Catalog), safe deployments, rollback plans, and drift monitoring.
- Be a technical partner to Data Science. Help the team evaluate new algorithms and data feeds (GPS, accelerometer, Mapbox) before they turn into production headaches.
- Collaborate across the tribe. Work alongside engineers at all levels, share feedback on code and design, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support healthy team dynamics. When priorities clash or questions arise, engage early, listen to different perspectives, and help the team land on a way forward.
- Speak everyone's language. Translate technical trade-offs for business stakeholders, and business priorities for engineers. Adjust your style depending on who's in the room, whether that's a data scientist, an architect, or a director.
What you bring to the table:
- 5+ years of experience in data / engineering.
- Strong with big data and cloud: Spark/PySpark, Databricks (Unity Catalog, Delta Lake), and AWS (S3, IAM, ECS/EKS, ALB).
- Comfortable with streaming systems: Kafka, real-time event processing, schema management.
- Strong coding skills: expert in Python, and comfortable enough in Java/Spring Boot to work with our backend services.
- Hands-on MLOps experience: MLflow, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Terraform, and monitoring tools like Dynatrace.
- A natural collaborator who can talk data science with the DS team and infrastructure trade-offs with architects, without missing a beat.
- Strong communication skills: someone who builds trust easily, listens well, and works well with people across disciplines.
- Comfortable giving and receiving direct, constructive feedback with care and respect.
- Able to adapt how you communicate depending on the audience, from hands-on engineers to senior stakeholders.
- Bilingualism (French / English) - Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
