POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Assistant Controller or designee, this position performs complex accounting, financial analysis, and financial systems work for the University Corporation. The position prepares and reconciles investment, bond, and lease accounting; completes assigned work for monthly, quarterly, and annual close; and prepares schedules and documentation for annual and, as applicable, quarterly audit activities. The position independently researches complex financial issues, develops ratio and pro forma analyses to support management decisions and Board reporting, and leads assigned improvements to accounting processes and financial systems. The employee recommends solutions for management approval and documents procedures to support continuity within the department.
Examples of Duties KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, financial schedules, and supporting documentation for monthly, quarterly, and annual close. Investigate and resolve complex accounting discrepancies within assigned areas, and submit completed work for management review and approval.
- Assume primary responsibility for the preparation and reconciliation of assigned accounting areas, including Corporation investments, bonds, and leases. Research the applicable accounting treatment, maintain supporting schedules, and recommend resolution of unusual or complex items to the Controller or Assistant Controller.
- Prepare schedules, workpapers, reconciliations, and responses to information requests for annual and quarterly audit activities. Coordinate the timely completion of assigned audit materials and resolve questions or discrepancies arising from that work.
- Develop financial analyses to support management decisions, including financial ratios, pro forma analyses, and analysis of budget and financial results. Explain findings, identify significant trends or variances, and recommend actions for management consideration.
- Support year-round budget planning and review by preparing financial information and analyses for quarterly discussions with department managers. Research variances and follow up on accounting or reporting issues identified through those reviews.
- Independently research complex transactions, accounting requirements, CSU procedures, and financial system issues. Evaluate the effects on the general ledger and related reports, develop a recommended course of action, and present it to the Controller or Assistant Controller for approval.
- Lead assigned efforts to improve accounting processes and financial system workflows. Identify bottlenecks, recurring errors, and control weaknesses; coordinate with affected teams to develop solutions; and carry approved changes through testing, documentation, and implementation.
- Serve as an Accounting lead for Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process improvements. Investigate issues affecting accounting transactions and the general ledger, and coordinate solutions with Accounts Payable staff, campus partners, and Chancellor's Office contacts as applicable.
- Lead the review of accounting workflows involving AppFolio and CFS. Work with East Campus and Accounting staff to identify discrepancies, interface limitations, and inefficient processes; recommend corrective changes; and coordinate implementation of approved solutions.
- Work with Post Award staff on accounting and financial process issues involving Cayuse, including its implementation and related workflows. Identify effects on accounting records and reporting, and coordinate resolution of assigned issues.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of additional financial system functionality, including Concur and CFS interunit functionality. Evaluate accounting requirements, coordinate testing and issue resolution, and document approved processes.
- Develop and maintain procedures, reconciliations, schedules, and other documentation for assigned accounting functions. Share information with Accounting staff and cross-train others as directed to support continuity of operations.
- Support tax preparation and other requests for financial information related to assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial analysis, including work with financial systems and complex reconciliations, reporting, process improvements, or system implementations.

- A combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- Experience with financial systems supporting accounting, purchasing, grants, or property operations.
- Experience preparing audit workpapers and financial analyses for management.
