About the role

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing advanced accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting the month-end and year-end close processes, and providing financial analysis to support business decision-making. This role serves as a key contributor to the accounting team, mentors junior staff, and helps maintain compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

This is a full-time Monday to Friday position based in Edmonton, with hybrid/remote flexibility.

Key responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances.
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.


Account Reconciliations & Analysis
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Perform detailed analysis of revenue, expenses, accruals, and reserves.
  • Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide actionable recommendations to management.

Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and company accounting policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit inquiries.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Support tax reporting and regulatory compliance activities.


Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Participate in ERP implementations, system enhancements, and automation initiatives.
  • Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.


Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Staff Accountants and other junior team members.
  • Review work prepared by accounting staff to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Partner with finance, operations, and other business functions to support organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned accounting areas.

• Advanced knowledge of IFRS and accounting best practices.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.

Required Work Experience
• 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong background in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience working with ERP systems and financial tools (SUN6, Cognos, or similar).

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field (MBA or CFA preferred for senior roles).
• Finance qualification along with professional certification (CA, CPA, CFA, ACCA, AGMA) is advantageous.

• Spanish - added advantage
