Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Crude & Feedstocks Accounting, this position oversees the timely and accurate completion of energy, trading, and risk management (ETRM) recognition, general ledger accounting, including costing and valuation, periodic reporting, reconciliation, settlement, and analysis activities supporting CVR Energy's purchases and consumption of crude oil, feedstocks, lease crude purchasing, intermediary purchasing, and transportation operations. The role requires complete functional and technical knowledge of assigned transactions, accounting processes, and systems; ensures SOX compliance across all activities within the area of responsibility; and serves as a key point of contact for front office, middle office, Commercial, operations, FP&A, accounting management, customers, vendors, and internal and external auditors. This individual is expected to build strong cross-functional relationships, resolve accounting matters, support business decisions, and provide thought leadership on accounting processes, systems, controls, and technical matters to ensure financial results are complete, supportable, and communicated effectively.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA is not required, but preference will be given to individuals with a CPA or are in the process of obtaining his/her license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 4+ years of experience in an accounting-related field required, with preference for experience accounting for commercial activities in a downstream energy environment.
  • 2+ years of inventory accounting experience desired.
  • Experience with Right Angle's ETRM application desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and internal controls required.
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail required, with the communication skills needed to reinforce best practices across diverse business teams.
  • Passion for continuous improvement required, with strong curiosity for understanding and improving end-to-end legacy structures and processes.
  • Exceptional Excel spreadsheet skills required.
  • Experience with Oracle Financials desired.
  • Ability to handle complex tasks requiring independent thought, analysis, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing projects, adjusting schedules to meet business needs.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written, required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions associated with assigned commercial activities supporting the Company's refining, marketing, and logistics business, including general ledger management, close activities, reconciliations, settlements, and basic reporting.
  • Execute and support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for crude oil, feedstocks, lease crude purchasing, intermediary purchasing, transportation, and related commercial accounting activities.
  • Prepare, review, and support balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger account reconciliations, variance analyses, and financial statement analytics for assigned commercial activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with front office, middle office, Commercial, operations, FP&A, accounting management, customers, vendors, and other cross-functional business partners to meet objectives.
  • Identify technical accounting matters within assigned areas of responsibility, communicate matters to the Sr. Manager, peers, and internal technical accounting resources as needed, and support resulting process, system, or documentation changes.
  • Direct and monitor applicable third-party relationships, including statement reconciliations, billing support, payment issue resolution, and periodic billing for third-party transportation services performed by CVR Energy.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, company policies, accounting standards, SOX 404, internal controls, and other control requirements applicable to assigned processes.
  • Manage and support internal and external audit requests by providing complete, accurate, and timely documentation for assigned areas.
  • Assist the corporate tax department with compliance matters involving taxing and regulatory bodies as they apply to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize business and system process optimization opportunities associated with refining, marketing, and logistics operations, and propose potential solutions to leadership.
  • Maintain and improve desktop procedures, process documentation, and supporting schedules to promote consistency, continuity, and knowledge transfer.
  • Assist the Sr. Manager, Crude & Feedstocks Accounting, cross-train within other areas of Petroleum Accounting, and provide backup support as needed.
  • Regularly communicate with the Sr. Manager regarding work progress, concerns, questions, risks, and matters requiring escalation.
  • Support special projects, system initiatives, process improvements, and additional accounting duties as assigned.

EXPECTED RESULTS
  • Commercial accounting activities for assigned refining and marketing areas are accurate, timely, complete, and appropriately supported.
  • Close, settlement, reconciliation, billing, reporting, and financial statement analytics are clear, value-added, and escalated within required timelines.
  • The incumbent demonstrates strong understanding of assigned people, processes, technology, systems, and controls.
  • Strong partnerships are maintained with upstream, downstream, front office, middle office, operational, finance, customer, vendor, and audit partners.
  • Assigned processes adhere to SOX 404, company policies and procedures, contracts, accounting standards, and applicable control requirements.
