Senior Accountant, AI & AutomationDepartment: Finance
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Remote USA - In Tandem
Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 / year
DescriptionAs a
Senior Accountant, AI & Automation, you'll play a critical role in protecting the integrity of our financial records while helping build a finance function that can scale with In Tandem.
We're not looking for someone to simply inherit our existing accounting processes. We're looking for someone who can own them, understand them, and then redesign them You'll be responsible for critical pieces of the monthly close while using AI, automation, and modern finance tooling to systematically eliminate manual work, shorten our close, and help In Tandem scale without adding accounting headcount at the same rate as the business. Approximately 30-40% of your time will be focused on automation, process redesign, and building scalable finance workflows, with the balance focused on owning core accounting responsibilities.
What you will accomplish:- Own significant parts of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Own an accounting automation roadmap: identify and prioritize high-value opportunities, build and implement solutions using AI tools, measure time/cycle-time savings, and continuously improve them while maintaining appropriate controls and auditability.
- Build automations that are documented, controlled, and maintainable by the broader accounting team; train teammates on new workflows so improvements scale beyond your own responsibilities.
- Help manage sales tax and VAT compliance, including Avalara setup and maintenance, reconciliations, multi-state filings, and partnership with outside advisors
- Support revenue recognition and deferred revenue, and own accrued expenses, prepaid accounts, and commission, bonus, and payroll-related entries
- Maintain fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and lease accounting, and prepare journal entries and reconciliations for FamilyWall, our French subsidiary
- Prepare audit schedules and support our annual financial statement audit, internal control documentation, and tax compliance
- Assist with monthly financial statements, management and board reporting, variance analysis, cash flow reporting, and departmental reporting
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, HR, Payroll, and Sales Operations to improve financial processes, reporting, and scalability
- Assist and back up Accounts Payable and expense reimbursement reviews and approvals
Who you are:- A builder at heart - when you inherit a manual or repetitive process, your instinct is to understand it and find a smarter, more scalable way to get it done
- Technically curious and fearless, with an interest in using AI, automation, and data to solve real accounting problems
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a knack for catching what others miss
- Comfortable working independently and managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A clear, confident communicator who can translate financial detail for non-finance stakeholders
- An analytical problem-solver who is comfortable digging into the "why" behind a variance
- Someone who takes ownership of accuracy and compliance and understands how to balance innovation with strong financial controls
What you bring:- 3+ years in an accounting role, with hands-on experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting the monthly close
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA and/or Master's in Accounting or Finance a plus
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and experience with sales tax compliance
- Experience working in Oracle/NetSuite, Avalara, and advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS; Power Query a plus)
- Demonstrated experience personally building or implementing automation that improved an accounting or finance process; candidates should be prepared to walk through what they built, how it worked, and the measurable impact.
- Hands-on experience building repeatable workflows using some combination of AI tools, SQL, Python, APIs, or workflow automation platforms.
- Strong financial statement analysis skills
- Experience working in a SaaS company a plus
