JOB SUMMARY

The Security Director provides operational and people leadership for assigned security contracts, including both armed and unarmed operations. This role is responsible for contract performance, regulatory and training compliance, operational excellence, client satisfaction, and business development support. The Security Director ensures security programs align with client expectations, organizational standards, and applicable legal and industry requirements.

This highly visible leadership role requires the ability to develop leaders, build strong client relationships, drive operational excellence, support business growth, and create a culture of accountability and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, personal accountability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead workforce-intensive operations across multiple locations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive leadership experience in military, law enforcement, private security, critical infrastructure, industrial operations, or related fields, including a minimum of five (5) years leading frontline managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Must be able to obtain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License within 30 days of hiring.
  • Proven people leadership experience with the ability to recruit, develop, motivate, coach, and hold teams accountable for performance, conduct, and service delivery outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workforce-intensive operations across multiple locations or job sites.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of demonstrating urgency, responsiveness, accountability, and follow-through on operational, employee, and client matters.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships while delivering exceptional customer service and resolving complex operational issues.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a visible field presence through regular site visits, employee engagement, inspections, and client interactions.
  • Ability to respond to operational matters outside normal business hours.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screens including drug test, criminal background check, and post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the Alaska Security Guard Regulations and Security Industry Requirements
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of remote Alaska environments
  • NRA, APSC or equivalent Firearms Instructor for Glock pistol, Remington 870 shotgun, and AR Platform
  • Pepper Spray Instructor
  • CEW (TASER) Instructor
  • Knowledge of the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA), Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security requirements for applicable locations
  • Professional security certification from ASIS International (CPP, PSP, PCI), or equivalent


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure security services are delivered in compliance with contractual obligations, DUS/client policies, and all applicable laws, regulations, and operational procedures.

Operational Leadership:

  • Demonstrate a proactive, hands-on leadership approach through regular field engagement, site visits, operational reviews, and direct interaction with employees and clients.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple operational, employee, and client-related issues while ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of action items.
    • Oversee day-to-day security operations across multiple client sites, ensuring service delivery meets contractual and organizational standards.
    • Help develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and performance metrics to improve efficiency, quality, and accountability.
    • Lead incident response efforts, including coordination with clients, law enforcement, and internal stakeholders.
    • Ensure proper staffing levels, deployment strategies, and scheduling practices that support operational effectiveness


Contract Management & Client Relations:

  • Develop trusted client partnerships through regular communication, operational reviews, responsiveness to concerns, and proactive service improvements.
  • Monitor contractual obligations, performance standards, and budget adherence.
  • Prepare reports, performance reviews, and quality assurance documentation for clients and leadership.
  • Lead contract renewals, scope adjustments, and negotiations in collaboration with executive leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships that support retention and contract growth.


Business Development:

  • Support business development activities through proposal writing, pricing strategies, and participation in client presentations.
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion within current accounts and emerging markets.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on operations, compliance, and security best practices during RFP responses and business pitches.


Training & Compliance

  • Ensure security personnel meet federal, state, and local training and certification requirements including firearms qualifications, use-of-force policies, and ongoing refresher training.
  • Ensure organizational adherence to applicable laws, licensing requirements, and industry standards (e.g., POST, state armed security regulations).
  • Coordinate or deliver training (firearms, defensive tactics, de-escalation, emergency response, and other mandated topics) in accordance with requirements of the contract and other applicable guidelines. Ability to teach basic firearms training and have armorer skills to work on company weapons, order ammunition, targets and range supplies as needed.


People Leadership & Administration

  • Provide direction, coaching, mentorship, and accountability to security managers, supervisors, and field personnel, fostering a culture of ownership, professionalism, and exceptional service delivery.
  • Lead all aspects of workforce management, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, performance management, employee relations, succession planning, retention strategies, and separation processes.
  • Build and develop high-performing teams through employee engagement, career development, coaching, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Hold leaders and employees accountable for performance expectations, operational standards, client service requirements, attendance, conduct, and policy compliance.
  • Lead workforce planning, staffing strategies, and resource allocation efforts to ensure security operations remain appropriately staffed and responsive to client needs.
  • Exercise sound judgment and timely decision-making in response to operational challenges, employee issues, client concerns, and emergency situations.
  • Develop and manage budgets/P&L, including labor forecasting, equipment purchases, and training expenditures.
  • Support internal investigations and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • As a key member of the DUS Leadership Team, the Security Director is expected to work collaboratively within the security function and cross-functionally to support organizational goals and enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including on short notice and for extended periods, as needed to support operational and business objectives.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to urgent operational needs outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Lead or support contract mobilizations, transitions, workforce changes, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate operational processes, workflows, service delivery models, and business practices to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, quality, consistency, compliance, and operational performance. Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Promote DUS's mission and values and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal accountability, responsiveness, and follow-through, ensuring commitments are completed, issues are addressed promptly, and stakeholders are kept informed of progress and outcomes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in office, remote camp, industrial, and field environments. The position requires frequent travel to North Slope locations and may involve severe weather, aircraft travel, uneven surfaces, stairs, and areas requiring personal protective equipment.

The employee's work requires routine sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying items. The successful applicant must be able to complete the Company's post-offer physical requirements.
