About the Role

As a SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring Happen Bank's financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. You'll apply technical accounting expertise to complex transactions, support the preparation of our external financial reporting, and partner across the business to deliver high-quality financial information while continuously improving processes and controls.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual SEC filings, including financial statements, footnotes & MD&A
  • Research complex accounting matters, prepare technical accounting memoranda, and document conclusions for significant or non-routine transactions
  • Partner cross-functionally to evaluate the accounting implications of new products, strategic initiatives, financing transactions, and other business activities
  • Monitor emerging accounting standards and SEC rulemaking, assess business impacts, and support the implementation of new accounting and disclosure requirements
  • Continuously improve financial reporting processes, controls, and disclosure practices, including identifying opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve efficiency while maintaining quality and compliance
  • Support the annual external audit and quarterly review process by coordinating deliverables and responding to auditor requests
  • Support the design, execution, and ongoing enhancement of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX) related to SEC reporting and technical accounting
  • Complete special projects, including peer benchmarking, accounting research, disclosure enhancement initiatives, and other finance transformation efforts


About You

  • 4+ years of experience in SEC reporting, technical accounting, public accounting, or a related field, and a bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and financial statement preparation
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research complex accounting issues and communicate conclusions clearly
  • Effective collaborator who builds strong relationships across Finance and business teams while adapting to changing priorities and feedback
  • You actively look for ways AI can improve your work-from accelerating research and analysis to enhancing drafting and problem solving-and you're thoughtful about accuracy, data sensitivity, and where human judgment is essential
  • You take ownership of your work and proactively identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, and team effectiveness


Nice to Have
  • Active CPA license
  • Experience preparing SEC filings using Workiva
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience within the banking or financial services industry


Work Location
San Francisco

The above locations are eligible offices for this role. The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role's team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role's success, and remote placement will not be considered. Happen Bank offers relocation, based on actual job level.

While the position will primarily work local hours, Happen Bank is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.

Travel Requirements
As needed travel to Happen Bank offices and/or other locations, as needed.

Compensation
The target base salary range for this position is 109,000-128,000. The base salary of the role will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is just one part of Happen Bank's Total Rewards package. You may also be eligible for long-term awards (equity) and an annual bonus (which is based on company performance, employee performance and eligible earnings).
