Full Job Description
Position Summary:
Atalanta is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and detail-oriented molecular and cellular biologist to join our In Vitro Biology team and lead the high-throughput screening team. As HTS team lead, this person will be responsible for the development and expansion of our screening capabilities to evaluate siRNA efficacy in mammalian cells and will oversee the implementation of HTS to support preclinical drug development for multiple therapeutic targets.
Candidate must be familiar with microplate-based cell culture and automated liquid handling. A background in neurobiology and/or familiarity with neuronal cell assay development is a plus.
Essential Functions: • Implementing and optimizing high throughput automated processes to accelerate siRNA compound screening and evaluation in cell-based assays. • Developing and standardizing cell-based assays, using skills in molecular cloning, stable cell line generation, cell culture and expression analysis to assess biological activity of potential siRNA therapeutic candidates • Application of data analysis tools to assess biological activity and assay performance and for statistical analysis of experimental data • Managing research associates in the performance of screening assays, in a matrixed organization • Interfacing with multiple project teams to adapt assays to high throughput formats, stage and prioritize screens, iteratively improve processes, and identify strong therapeutic lead compounds • Communicating study designs, progress and results through strong interpersonal interactions as well as slide presentations and reports
Required Qualifications: • Technical expertise in cell-based bioassays, high-throughput screening automation, mRNA expression analysis and ELISA/multiplex assays. • A strong background in assay development, optimization and validation. • Expertise in molecular biology, including creation of stable cell lines for target evaluation • A demonstrated ability to work with large experimental data sets including statistical analyses. • Experience in neurodegenerative and neurological disease research • Ability to work and think independently and contribute as a part of a highly matrixed team • Self-motivation, ability to multi-task, capacity to handle multiple and changing priorities as well as fluctuations in the workload • Excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail • Outstanding problem-solving skills, ability to independently analyze and present data to scientific teams, excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Education • Ph.D. in neuroscience, biochemistry, or a relevant biological science with an additional 3+ years of relevant industry experience in assay development and high throughput screening, or a B.S./M.S. with equivalent experience
