Position Summary
We are seeking a Scientist I/II to join our Biomolecular Discovery team. This role offers an opportunity to directly impact Magnet's drug discovery efforts through production of high-quality protein reagents suitable for biochemical assays and generation of structural insights. This position will work closely with colleagues across cell biology, chemistry, and proteomics, participating in a highly dynamic collaborative environment where cross-functional teamwork drives progress. If you are a curious scientist dedicated to developing novel small molecule therapeutics for patients in need, we encourage you to consider joining our team at Magnet.
Key Responsibilities
Protein Expression: Design plasmid constructs and optimize recombinant protein expression in bacterial (E. coli), insect, or mammalian cell systems
Protein Purification: Execute multi-step protein purification using affinity, ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction and size-exclusion chromatography
Biochemical Characterization: Analyze protein purity, stability and integrity using SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, UV/Vis spectroscopy and fluorescence-based assays
Biochemical compound profiling: Assess compound perturbation of protein-protein interactions utilizing techniques such as FP, TR-FRET and luminescence
X-ray Crystallography: Support data collection, analysis and communicate structural insights with collaborators
PhD or BS/MS in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry or related field with 0-5 years (PhD) or 4-10 years (BS/MS) of industrial drug discovery experience
Hands-on laboratory experience in recombinant protein construct design, expression and purification
Highly organized with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Effective communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to progress team objectives
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with structural biology methods such as X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, native MS, or HDxMS is preferred
Experience in proximity induced small molecule drug discovery is preferred
National salary range. Salary will be determined by many factors, including but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, location and business or organizational needs.
