Full Job Description
Corbion is seeking a Scientist based at our Lenexa, KS office to lead the research and development efforts related to enzyme assays, characterization, and evaluation. This role partners closely with the R&D and Applications (RDA) teams to lead and execute projects related to enzymes utilized in bakery applications.

Essential Functions

  • Execute projects independently and in a cross functional environment

  • Conduct enzyme biochemical analysis and research

  • Build enzyme analysis capabilities and develop new methods and SOPs

  • Utilize project management skills to develop and execute project plans

  • Scan industry and academia for new enzyme analysis techniques and proactively propose potential opportunities for growth

  • Translate technical datasets into business insights

  • Collaborate with customers and/or suppliers to develop the science and enabling technology to support the development of innovative solutions for the baking industry

  • Report/discuss work status and other critical information with peers and RDA management

  • Provide technical training related to enzyme characterization

  • Contribute to the quality of R&D projects by providing technical insights and industry trends

  • Cultivate a team atmosphere with peer groups and upper management

  • Liaise with universities, research institutions, and other 3rd party labs and consultants

  • Assist in maintaining a lab environment that is clean, organized, and work ready

  • Ability to take additional tasks as needed to support company's business goals


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's Degree or PhD in Biochemistry, Food Science or related scientific field

  • 5+ years of experience (or PhD) in enzyme biochemistry, characterization, and analysis

  • Strong knowledge of the various enzymes used in baking applications

  • A good understanding of the principles of food science and bakery science, food ingredient functionality, analytical techniques, and baking lab equipment

  • Experienced in conducting enzyme biochemical analysis, such as various enzyme activity assays, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, etc. and interpretating the data for application in bakery applications

  • Expertise in executing a variety of benchtop analytical and instrumental techniques - HPLC, GC-MS, ICP, titrations, etc.

  • Ability to work independently to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner

  • Successful at communicating to a wide range of audiences concerning technical and business needs

  • Possess problem solving skills, understanding of experimental design, and statistical analysis

  • Capable of self-management and multiple project/task management


Working Environment

  • Primarily based in a laboratory setting, requiring hands-on experimentation, product testing, and routine use of analytical equipment


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to perform tasks that require moderate physical exertion, such as lifting, moving, or positioning materials

  • Ability to move/traverse within the workspace to access tools, equipment, or workstations
