We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Scientist 3 to join our Formulation team. In this hands-on laboratory role, you will independently execute and optimize the synthesis of targeted and non-targeted lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for nucleic acid delivery. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player with strong technical and data analysis skills who is ready to contribute to our non-viral delivery platform.
The Opportunity:
You will independently execute and optimize the synthesis of targeted and non-targeted lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating nucleic acids for in vitro and in vivo studies.
You will lead DoE-based screening campaigns directed toward discovering LNPs, setting LNP composition specifications, and optimizing LNP formulations..
You will collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (biology, analytics, chemistry, and project management) to advance programs.
You will support early-stage formulation development and downstream processing activities, including cryoprotection, scale-up, and stability studies as needed.
You will maintain detailed records documenting formulation activities and results.
You will analyze, interpret, and present experimental data in group meetings.
You will troubleshoot formulation challenges and continuously improve workflows.
This is an onsite role based in San Diego, CA.

Who You Are:
(Required)
You have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with relevant academic and/or biopharma industry experience; OR a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with 3+ years of industry experience.
You have 2 or more years of hands-on laboratory experience specializing in LNP formulation and encapsulation of nucleic acids (mRNA, siRNA, or DNA) for in vitro and in vivo studies.
You have are highly proficient with standard LNP characterization methods, including Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Zeta potential, and Ribogreen assays.
You have a demonstrated level of expertise in MS Excel; hands-on experience with statistical and data analysis software (e.g., JMP, Prism)
You have a demonstrated level experience in the LNP field in the form of publications and/or patent filings.
Preferred:
You have experience with Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) and bioconjugation chemistry is highly desirable.
You have experience working in an FDA-regulated environment
You have strong communication skills including the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization; you are hands-on, self-directed, organized, conscientious.
You have strong problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills
You have strong time management and organizational skills in a dynamic, continually changing environment; you have the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, customer inquiries or complaints as well as communicate effectively both orally and in writing with management, peers and individuals.
You have the ability to work effectively, exhibit a professional manner and establish constructive working relationships.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of San Diego, CA is $89,900 - $166,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
