Job Overview:

The Planner-Scheduler is responsible for preparing project schedules for mid to large scale projects, as per the project's contract and budget requirements. The Planner-Scheduler will also have the ability to process, organize, and deliver all the elements necessary for an installation work package, before the work is started, allowing construction crews to perform their work safely, efficiently, and effectively.

Location: Acheson, Alberta

Monday to Friday - 8 hours per day

JOB DUTIES
  • Perform budget development, progress measurement, cost forecasting and preparing monthly internal and client benchmark/milestone reports for mid to large scale projects.
  • Prepare and maintain project schedule using current project systems tool (such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project).
  • Interface, as needed with client representatives to communicate and receive schedule update information.
  • Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Analyzes project specifications and work load capacity data and performs mathematical calculations to determine tools and human resource requirements.
  • Plans and schedules workflow for the project team according to previously established guidelines, sequences and lead times.
  • Confers with project managers and engineers to determine status of assigned projects.
  • Assist with a project change order procedure and log.
  • Prepare internal cost reports and analysis for management on a monthly basis.
  • Various other duties as requested by management


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is preferred; equivalent work experience is acceptable.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is considered an asset.
  • 7 - 10 years working experience in construction project management.


SKILLS
  • Knowledge of typical costs associated with piping and civil activities.
  • Aptitude for mathematics is able to analyze, compare and interpret detailed but sometimes poorly defined information, and be able to make sound and accurate judgments based on this information.
  • Ability to focus on details, while analyzing and managing larger obstacles, is vital.
  • Assertiveness and self-assurance in presenting and supporting conclusions, strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and the ability to incorporate work-breakdown structure (WBS) techniques are increasingly important in cost estimating complex development projects.
  • Familiarity with Primavera scheduling software (or MS Project)
  • Able to often work under pressure and stress, especially when facing bid deadlines.
  • Accuracy is paramount. Inaccurate estimating can cause a bid (proposal) loss or a project money loss on a job that was not accurately estimated.
  • Support managers in creating new proposals.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with estimating software
