SAP MASTER DATA ANALYST – SERVICE MANAGEMENT
THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
The SAP Data Analyst - Service Management analyzes, governs, converts, maintains, and improves service master and transactional data to support service operations, transformation, performance, and decision-making.
The role combines expertise in SAP S/4 Service Management, service data, conversion, CDS views, business objects, data quality, and reporting. Working with Service Process Owners, SAP functional teams, IT, data engineering, and business stakeholders, the analyst ensures service data is accurate, complete, consistent, properly structured, and fit for operational use.
The primary focus is the relationship between service master data and transactions, including Service Contracts, Maintenance Plans, Billing Schedules, Service Products, installed bases, equipment, functional locations, customers and service orders
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)
Master Data Governance
- Develop and implement a robust master data governance framework to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with business and regulatory standards.
- Define, document, and enforce master data policies, procedures, and standards across the organization.
- Lead initiatives to improve data quality and resolve data-related issues.
Service Master Data Management
- Govern, maintain, and improve service master data in SAP S/4HANA.
- Define standards for business partners, products, equipment, functional locations, installed bases, serial numbers, contracts, warranties, maintenance plans and billing plans.
- Analyze relationships among customers, assets, products, contracts, warranties, and service organizations.
- Identify duplicate, incomplete, inconsistent, obsolete, or incorrectly assigned records.
- Assess the impact of data quality on scheduling, service execution, parts availability, billing, reporting, and customer experience.
- Define ownership, validation rules, lifecycle controls, and stewardship procedures.
- Support creation, change, extension, transfer, retirement, and ongoing remediation of service data.
Data Conversion & Migration
- Lead or support conversion of service master and transactional data into SAP S/4HANA.
- Analyze legacy structures, source fields, business rules, dependencies, and data gaps.
- Define source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, validation criteria, and reconciliation requirements.
- Map legacy customers, products, equipment, functional locations, installed bases, contracts, warranties, orders, confirmations, and related objects to SAP structures.
- Support cleansing, enrichment, standardization, conversion templates, and approved data-load methods.
- Coordinate extraction, transformation, validation, loading, mock conversions, dress rehearsals, cutover, and post-load validation.
- Reconcile legacy, staging, and SAP records; investigate rejected records, missing relationships, and incorrect assignments.
- Document mapping logic, assumptions, exceptions, unresolved issues, retention, and archival requirements.
- Ensure converted data supports service execution, inventory, billing, reporting, and financial processes.
Service Transactional Data Maintenance
- Maintain and validate service requests, notifications, orders, maintenance orders, confirmations, technician assignments, time recordings, parts, goods movements, subcontracting, contracts, warranty claims, billing, invoices, credit memos, and accounting postings.
- Trace relationships among service transactions, customers, assets, materials, technicians, organizations, and financial documents.
- Analyze statuses, document flows, timestamps, quantities, values, and organizational assignments.
- Identify incomplete, delayed, duplicated, reversed, or incorrectly processed transactions.
- Support correction and remediation of invalid or incomplete data.
- Reconcile service execution with inventory, controlling, revenue, cost, billing, and profitability data.
- Analyze service labor, parts, external services, costs, revenue, margins, and profitability.
CDS Views, APIs & Data Models
- Identify and use standard SAP S/4HANA CDS views for service master and transactional data.
- Analyze relationships among business partners, products, equipment, functional locations, contracts, orders, confirmations, materials, billing, and accounting.
- Support custom analytical queries and reusable data models where standard content is insufficient.
- Use released APIs and data models consistent with clean-core principles.
- Define dimensions, measures, filters, status logic, business rules, and data lineage.
- Build datasets for service operations, asset management, field service, parts usage, contract compliance, billing, conversion, and maintenance.
- Validate analytical results against SAP transactions and business expectations.
Data Governance & Quality
- Define service master and transactional data-quality rules, validation controls, and reconciliation procedures.
- Monitor completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, uniqueness, and validity.
- Identify root causes and downstream impacts of data-quality issues.
- Define ownership and stewardship for business partners, products, equipment, functional locations, installed bases, contracts, warranties, orders, and confirmations.
- Document terminology, data definitions, status logic, and validation rules.
- Support cleansing, remediation, exception reporting, periodic reviews, and corrective-action tracking.
- Establish controls to prevent recurring issues and support ongoing maintenance after go-live.
Data Maintenance & Operational Support
- Establish procedures for creating, changing, extending, blocking, and retiring service master records.
- Review and validate data-change requests against standards and business rules.
- Coordinate approvals for sensitive or high-impact changes.
- Maintain work instructions, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation.
- Support approved mass-maintenance activities, testing, reconciliation, post-go-live stabilization, and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with Service Process Owners, Field Service, Customer Service, Asset Management, Finance, Controlling, Supply Chain, SAP functional teams, data engineers, and analytics teams.
- Translate service requirements into SAP data, conversion, and maintenance requirements.
- Facilitate discovery, mapping, cleansing, conversion, and maintenance sessions.
- Present data-quality issues, conversion results, reconciliation findings, root causes, and recommendations.
- Coordinate issue resolution and prioritize improvements based on operational and financial impact.

- The analyst must understand how service master data drives transactions and how transactions flow into inventory, financial, billing, and customer outcomes.
- Support system upgrades, migrations, and implementations by ensuring master data readiness and compliance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to master data within the SAP environment.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Five (5)+ years of experience in SAP master data management
- Proven experience in the service industry or similar fast-paced, customer-focused environments.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SAP MDG (Master Data Governance), SAP S/4HANA, and related tools.
- Strong understanding of master data domains, such as customer, vendor, material, and finance data.
- Familiarity with data quality tools and methodologies.
