Primary PurposeThe Principal Software Engineer serves as a senior technical expert who designs and builds highly complex software solutions while shaping engineering standards and guiding teams across products and platforms.
Serves as the hands-on integration engineering lead for ADUSA's SAP transformation program, defining, designing, and delivering enterprise integration solutions across SAP and non-SAP platforms. Partners closely with the system integrator and internal architecture teams to establish a scalable integration foundation using SAP Integration Suite (BTP), MuleSoft, other ETL and data integration tools, APIs, orchestration, and event-driven patterns.
*Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office location for this role is Salisbury, NC.*Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.Duties and Responsibilities:- Design, build, test, deploy, and support enterprise grade software solutions.
- Lead analysis, design, and code reviews for major application components.
- Develop high quality, production-ready code and robust automated tests.
- Support upgrade planning, modernization, and management of technical debt.
- Implement automation strategies and contribute to CI/CD and DevOps maturity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical designs.
- Monitor application performance and address issues with root-cause analysis.
- Research emerging technologies and recommend innovative improvements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams.
- May be called upon to support critical escalations and must be available during urgent IT incidents as needed.
- Lead the engineering design and delivery of integrations across SAP and non-SAP platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, supportable, and aligned with the SAP transformation roadmap.
- Build and maintain integrations using SAP Integration Suite (BTP), MuleSoft, and other ETL and data integration tools, including API-based services, orchestration frameworks, interfaces, reusable patterns, and automated testing.
- Partner extensively with the system integrator and internal delivery teams to review designs and code, manage dependencies and defects, and ensure integration capabilities meet ADUSA engineering standards.
- Collaborate with enterprise architecture teams to define integration standards, API governance, security, observability, error handling, message reprocessing, deployment, and operational best practices.
- Support event-driven and streaming-based integrations using Kafka and related technologies, applying cloud-native patterns where they improve agility, resilience, or real-time data exchange.
- Guide and mentor engineers involved in integration delivery, influence technical direction without direct authority, and contribute to AI-enabled integration and automation opportunities where appropriate.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of work experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in modern software design, development, and testing.
- Hands-on experience with cloud environments and DevOps practices.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with a user-focused mindset.
- Demonstrated experience leading SAP integration initiatives within large-scale, complex enterprise transformations.
- Advanced hands-on experience with SAP Integration Suite on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), MuleSoft, and other ETL and data integration tools.
- Strong expertise in API design, development, management, orchestration, enterprise integration architecture, ETL/data pipeline design, and end-to-end delivery across heterogeneous platforms.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicate complex concepts clearly, and influence technical direction without direct authority.
- Experience mentoring and guiding engineers while remaining hands-on in solution design, development, testing, deployment, and issue resolution.
- Ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving transformation environment while balancing delivery priorities, architecture standards, and operational readiness.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in architecting distributed systems.
- Experience with Kafka, streaming technologies, and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of cloud-native integration patterns, resilient interface design, monitoring, and automated recovery.
- Experience working with system integrators and consulting partners in a shared-delivery model.
- Awareness of, experience with, or strong interest in AI and Generative AI applications for integration engineering and automation.
- Experience supporting integrations through design, build, testing, cutover, stabilization, and ongoing operational support.
Salary Range NC: $163,280 - $244,920
Actual compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on their unique qualifications and experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Final compensation decisions will be made in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
