Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced
Sales Tax Manager / Senior Manager - State & Local Tax (SALT) to provide technical leadership in sales and use tax compliance, tax research, and transaction advisory support.
This role requires a strong background in
Sales & Use Tax, indirect tax compliance, M&A tax due diligence, and multi-state tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have public accounting or consulting experience and the ability to manage complex client engagements while providing strategic tax guidance.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Use Tax Advisory- Provide technical guidance and consulting support on Sales & Use Tax matters.
- Research complex state and local tax issues and prepare technical memorandums and reports.
- Analyze multi-state sales tax requirements and compliance obligations.
- Review exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation.
M&A Tax Support- Support mergers and acquisitions through tax due diligence and transaction structuring.
- Identify indirect tax risks and opportunities during acquisition reviews.
- Assist clients with post-transaction tax compliance requirements.
Compliance & Tax Reporting- Review Sales & Use Tax returns for accuracy and compliance.
- Assist with voluntary disclosure agreements and tax registrations.
- Respond to state tax notices and inquiries.
- Represent clients in communications with state and local tax authorities.
Technology & Process Management- Utilize tax technology platforms such as:
- Avalara
- Vertex
- TaxJar
- Similar indirect tax software solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve tax processes and compliance workflows.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of State & Local Tax (SALT) experience.
- Strong expertise in:
- Sales & Use Tax
- Indirect tax compliance
- Multi-state tax regulations
- Tax research and analysis
- Required professional designation:
- CPA, JD/LLM, CMI, or equivalent certification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage client relationships and complex tax engagements.
