About the Role:As an Underground Safety & Training Coordinator with Dumas, you will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with company, client, and legislative health, safety, and environmental requirements. You will coordinate site orientations, equipment training, competency assessments, and training records while working closely with project leadership and client representatives. This role requires a proactive leader who is passionate about safety, mentoring employees, and supporting operational excellence through effective training programs.
Key Responsibilities:- Promote and enforce Dumas health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the client's safety department to ensure compliance with all site requirements.
- Conduct incident investigations, workplace inspections, safety observations, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Coordinate and deliver site orientations and new employee inductions.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate underground equipment operators and other employees as required.
- Assist supervisors with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
- Maintain accurate training records, competency assessments, and regulatory documentation.
- Develop and update training materials and safe work procedures as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable mining legislation, company standards, and client requirements.
- Monitor employee training requirements and coordinate recertification as necessary.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:- Minimum 10 years of underground mining experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a safety and/or training role within the mining industry.
- Valid Ontario Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core certification or equivalent.
- Train the Trainer certification required.
- Ontario Underground Hard Rock Supervisory Common Core considered an asset.
- Experience training operators on underground mining equipment, including haul trucks, scoops, MacLean bolters, jumbos, and construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario mining health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Experience developing training programs and maintaining training records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
