Overview

We are currently looking for a full time Safety Manager to join our Mission Critical Safety team. Are you passionate about ensuring a safe work environment for the entire project team? To help the team think pro-actively so that we can provide a safe place to work? Are you committed to working hand-in-hand with our project supers and project managers to enforce our company policy as well as the OSHA safety regulations and policies?

 

SUMMARY

 

The purpose of this role is to ensure a safe working environment while minimizing Shawmut’s financial and operational exposure related to safety risks. This position is responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and overseeing project safety, accident prevention, and fire protection programs that align with Shawmut’s goals, values, and regulatory requirements. The role manages and performs safety audits to promote safe work practices, prevent injuries, and reduce liability claims. The position works closely with Risk Management, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies to effectively represent Shawmut’s interests and ensure compliance. This role fosters a strong culture of safety across job sites by serving as a safety role model and holding all parties accountable. Travel of up to 50% is required.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Actively participate in the preconstruction process by reviewing project documents and schedules and conducting worksite assessments to identify potential hazards. Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents on evacuation routes, fire protection plans, demolition and abatement procedures, emergency response protocols, and contaminant protection measures.
  • Ensure all projects have required safety checklists, permits, and documentation in place prior to and throughout construction activities.
  • Conduct routine job-site walkthroughs and safety inspections to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend or implement corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare written inspection and incident reports outlining findings, recommendations, and corrective or preventive actions; follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Advise the Area Safety Manager and/or Safety Director on safety compliance issues, trends, and preventative strategies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver safety training and orientations for employees and subcontractors; lead safety talks, toolbox talks, and safety-related meetings.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses by gathering information and evidence (including photographs), identifying root causes, coordinating with all involved parties, and communicating lessons learned across the project team.
  • Maintain accurate and complete safety records and files, ensuring proper storage and accessibility for future reference.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of company safety programs and initiatives.
  • Review project safety performance and financial impacts to evaluate subcontractor compliance and participation in safe work practices.
  • Foster a strong culture of safety on jobsites and in the office by serving as a role model and holding employees and subcontractors accountable to safety standards.
  • Monitor weather conditions daily and proactively address weather-related safety risks.
  • Conduct safety orientations for all new workers before they begin work on site.
  • Review, approve, and sign off on all required work permits.
  • Document jobsite observations and review findings directly with the Superintendent, clearly communicating strengths, areas for improvement, and required follow-up actions.
  • Attend foremen’s meetings, daily huddles, morning pre-task plans (PTPs), and other safety-related meetings as required.
  • Follow up promptly on all major safety concerns, high-risk activities, and Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) conditions.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related role. Previous data center experience preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Must be First Aid and CPR qualified (or within 1 year of hire).
    • OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor preferred.
    • Additional certifications obtained by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proficiency with Procore or ability to learn to new systems.

 

Specific Competencies:
    • Extensive knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards.
    • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
    • Outstanding relationship-building skills including the ability to influence successfully without direct management authority. Must be able to build rapport, actively listen, and diffuse high-tension situations when needed.
    • Ability to be assertive, stay organized, handle various projects at one time, follow up and make accurate decisions.
    • Ability to speak / write clearly in English to write reports, business correspondence, and safety talks.
    • Ability to create a culture of inclusion and belonging by acting with courage, humility, and curiosity; desire to learn about others and self-reflect.

Salary Range Information

U.S. Base Salary Range: $88,000 - $135,000. Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to geographic location, years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.
