Full Job Description

Wilson & Company is seeking an experienced Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead our Rocky Mountain Survey Practice. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys maintaining existing and building new client relationships across the full range of public and private clients, mentoring professionals, and growing a high-performing, diversified surveying practice while delivering exceptional technical services.

As the Rocky Mountain Survey Practice Lead, you will provide strategic leadership for survey operations across multiple offices, partnering closely with engineering teams to deliver boundary, topographic, utility, transmission, transportation, rail, and infrastructure surveying services for a broad mix of clients. You will be responsible for the overall success of the regional practice, including client satisfaction, staff development, project performance, quality management, and business growth — with a particular focus on winning and sustaining work across multiple client sectors.

This position is ideal for someone who is as driven to win new work as they are to develop people and solve technical challenges.

What You'll Do

Leadership

  • Lead and inspire survey teams across the Rocky Mountain Region.
  • Develop, mentor, and coach project managers, professional surveyors, and field staff.
  • Foster a culture focused on safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
  • Balance workloads and allocate resources across offices to maximize efficiency.

Client Relationships & Business Development

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to public and private clients across every sector the practice serves.
  • Proactively pursue and secure new work across a diversified client base — state and municipal transportation agencies, electric utilities and transmission owners, EPC firms, rail carriers, and private developers.
  • Develop long-term client relationships that generate repeat business across multiple sectors.
  • Lead or support project pursuits, proposals, interviews, and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with engineering practice leaders to pursue multidisciplinary opportunities.
  • Champion growth in strategic markets

Practice Management

  • Oversee financial performance including backlog, forecasting, utilization, profitability, and project performance.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Wilson & Company's quality standards.
  • Monitor project risks and implement proactive solutions.
  • Continuously improve operational processes and project delivery.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical oversight for boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, utility, transmission, transportation, rail, and construction surveying projects.
  • Review survey deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and defensibility.
  • Guide implementation of emerging technologies including GNSS, LiDAR, UAS, mobile mapping, and 3D data collection.
  • Promote innovation and best practices throughout the practice.
