Risk Manager - Payments Risk Integration, Strategy, and Modernization (PRISM) (Hybrid)
The Enterprise Payments Risk Integration, Strategy, and Modernization team (PRISM) is seeking a dynamic Manager who will play a pivotal role in driving risk mitigation across both strategic and emerging payments initiatives across the Enterprise. This newly formed team is responsible for the oversight of emerging payments, products, and businesses, which includes integration activities.
In this role, you will be a key partner across critical payments initiatives and programs, working closely with technology, product, risk management, and operations teams to enable a risk-first approach to payments modernization and new businesses. Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Innovation: Serve as a key risk thought partner for new businesses and emerging payments activities, including evaluating AI capabilities, smart automation, and advanced analytics to continue to modernize the payments risk landscape
Risk Mitigation & Controls: Execute on core deliverables including documenting payments use cases and supporting lines of business in demonstrating adherence to payment risk policy & standards
Automation & Tech Modernization: Identify opportunities to deploy automation (e.g., RPA, natural language processing, predictive risk analytics) to streamline manual governance & oversight, operationalize controls, and improve monitoring efficiency
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Accountable Executives, Product, Tech, and Business Risk Offices to assess strategy, operations, and risks across all payment types (ACH, Wire, Cards, Real-Time Payments, etc.) throughout the payment lifecycle
The Person:
Exhibit outstanding influencing skills to effectively drive program efforts within and outside of your vertical business area
Strong foundational knowledge of risk management and/or payment types, rails, and operations (or a proven track record of rapidly mastering complex domain spaces)
Possesses an ability to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes
An analytical mindset with a passion to implement Gen AI capabilities, agents, and automation workflows to enhance risk monitoring efficiency, ensuring the responsible implementation and governance of such capabilities
Deep understanding of payment networks (ACH, Wires, etc) and the associated regulatory environments
Results-oriented with an ability to deliver against goals and objectives
Team-focused, with demonstrated strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
Location: This role is hybrid, where you will be expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office and the remainder of the week working virtually.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
At least 3 years of experience in risk management, audit or governance
At least 4 years experience in the banking or financial industry
At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or Military experience
At least 4 years of experience in risk management, audit or governance
At least 5 years of project management experience leading cross functional projects and programs
At least 3 years of experience managing senior level stakeholders
At least 3 years of experience working in payments
At least 3 years of people leadership experience
At least 3 years of process management experience
Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification or Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk ManagerRichmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
