The Opportunity

Our actuarial advisers deliver creative and innovative thinking to high-profile health insurance and managed care companies nationwide, helping them make confident financial decisions aligned with their business goals. As a Senior in our Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services (IAAS) Health team, you'll be an actuary at the heart of that mission: leading engagement teams, working directly with clients, developing team members, and helping reimagine how actuarial work is delivered using AI and automation.

Who thrives here

We're building an adaptable, collaborative practice, and we're looking for people who bring:
  • Adaptability and curiosity: you're comfortable with change, eager to learn, and excited to explore new ways of working, including how AI and automation can improve actuarial work.
  • Collaboration and team leadership: you build strong relationships, share credit, and help develop the people around you.
  • Communication and influence: you explain complex ideas clearly and persuade on technical subjects, in writing and in person.
  • Ownership and delivery: you take initiative, manage risk, and follow through to high-quality outcomes.
  • A problem-solving mindset: you break down complex problems and find practical, well-reasoned solutions.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior within the IAAS Health team, you'll lead engagement teams and deliver work such as:
  • Claim liability estimation (reserving).
  • Assumption setting and review for other health insurance actuarial balances (risk adjustment, contract reserves, and similar items).
  • Actuarial opinion and regulatory services.
  • Actuarial process redesign and software integration.
  • Data visualization.
  • Ad hoc financial reporting advice.

You'll also help reimagine how health actuarial work is done using AI and automation, and mentor and develop junior colleagues as you grow your own leadership.

To qualify for the role, you must have
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in an actuarial position.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), actively pursuing Fellowship (FSA) with a technical emphasis on Group and Health Insurance.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Excel, SAS, VBA and/or C++.
  • A proven ability to manage time across multiple, often shifting projects, working both collaboratively and independently under pressure.

What will set you apart
  • Experience estimating health insurance unpaid claim liabilities, risk adjustment accruals, premium deficiency reserves, or other actuarial balances relating to health insurance financial reporting.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Alteryx, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Previous consulting experience, or experience implementing new processes or procedures in a corporate environment.

Why join this team

IAAS is an apprenticeship-minded team that invests in your development. You'll be paired with a counselor dedicated to your growth, learn from experienced actuaries, and take on increasing ownership and client leadership as you progress toward Fellowship. Our actuarial exam program supports your journey with paid study time, covered exam fees and materials, and rewards as you earn exams and credentials.
