Position purpose The Revenue Accounting Data Product Owner will lead the business-side design, prioritization, adoption, and value realization of The Specialty Alliance's revenue-recognition and accrual data product. The role is designed for a physician-led, multi-specialty MSO that combines shared operational infrastructure, analytics, revenue-cycle support, and growth services while preserving practice-level clinical autonomy.
This leader will translate accounting policy, close requirements, revenue-cycle realities, and management-reporting needs into a prioritized and governed product backlog for the Azure / Snowflake-based revenue accounting data platform. The role sits at the intersection of Finance, Accounting, Revenue Cycle, and Data & Analytics and is responsible for ensuring the product solves real close-process and control needs rather than becoming a purely technical build.
The primary purpose of the role is to ensure TSA's revenue accounting automation agenda remains Finance-led, control-oriented, and operationally adoptable. This position owns product direction, business requirements, acceptance criteria, testing coordination, stakeholder alignment, and measurable value realization for automated revenue-recognition and accrual capabilities.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
- Own the technical roadmap and delivery plan for the Revenue Recognition Data Product, including source onboarding, data quality, reconciliation, controls, and production support.
- Architect and build scalable ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines using Azure services and Snowflake.
- Develop a canonical revenue-accounting data model that standardizes charges, payments, adjustments, contractual allowances, refunds, credit balances, unapplied cash, denials, reserves, accruals, and journal-entry support.
- Translate accounting requirements and revenue-recognition policy into transparent, version-controlled transformation logic, while Accounting retains policy ownership and final close approval.
- Establish automated reconciliations among source systems, subledgers, RCM platforms, data-product outputs, and the general ledger, with documented exception-management workflows.
- Build data controls for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, uniqueness, lineage, change management, and period-close signoff.
- Produce auditable documentation, including source-to-target mappings, business rules, control evidence, lineage, data dictionaries, runbooks, and release records.
- Partner with Finance and Revenue Cycle leaders to define close-calendar milestones, materiality thresholds, approval points, and service-level expectations.
- Lead technical discovery and onboarding for multiple practice groups and acquired entities, balancing enterprise standardization with local-system variation.
- Implement observability and support practices, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-close validation.
- Establish reusable engineering standards for SQL, Python, Git-based development, CI/CD, testing, infrastructure-as-code, security, and peer review.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership for future revenue-accounting engineering workstreams.
- Communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical stakeholders, including reconciliation results, delivery status, risks, decisions needed, and realized value.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, information systems, healthcare administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in finance transformation, revenue accounting, revenue cycle, healthcare finance, product management, business analysis, or related functions.
- 3+ years leading cross-functional initiatives involving Finance, operations, and technology teams.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex accounting or financial-process requirements into technology-delivery backlogs and business requirements.
- Strong understanding of revenue recognition, accruals, close-cycle processes, reconciliations, controls, and management reporting.
- Experience working with data, analytics, reporting, or engineering teams to deliver process automation or enterprise data products.
- Strong facilitation, stakeholder-management, and decision-making skills in environments with competing priorities.
- Ability to define acceptance criteria, test strategy, issue triage processes, and value-realization measures.
- Strong written communication and executive presentation skills.
Preferred qualifications - Healthcare-provider, MSO, physician-practice, payer, or revenue-cycle experience.
- Direct exposure to charge capture, claims, remittances, contractual allowances, denials, patient balances, refunds, reserves, or GL close support.
- Experience with enterprise data and analytics platforms, particularly Snowflake, Azure, Power BI, or comparable ecosystems.
- Familiarity with financial controls, internal audit, SOX-like disciplines, or external-audit support, even if not in a public-company context.
- Experience in M&A integration, practice onboarding, or multi-entity finance standardization.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant business or accounting credential preferred but not required.
