DescriptionWe are seeking a 12-month Tenure-Track or Clinical-Track Assistant/Associate Professor who will serve as Program Director of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) program.
This hybrid position is a 100% appointment, with 60% faculty effort and 40% administrative effort. Faculty members in CHS have a weekly on-campus presence expectation. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the continued development and growth of a high-quality accredited respiratory therapy program that prepares graduates for professional practice and licensure.
Position OverviewThe Respiratory Therapy Program Director is responsible for participating in the administration, organization, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Respiratory Therapy program. The role is designed to align with CoARC accreditation standards while supporting the development of faculty leadership capacity within a collaborative departmental structure. The Program Director role is designed to support assistant-level faculty. The successful candidate will work closely with the Department Director and the administrative team and will receive guidance in program administration, accreditation processes, and leadership development.
ResponsibilitiesProgram AdministrationThe Program Director will work in collaboration with the Department Director and relevant stakeholders to:
- Lead the administration, planning, and evaluation of the Respiratory Therapy program in alignment with accreditation standards and institutional expectations
- Support curriculum development, review, and revision to ensure alignment with current professional standards, licensure requirements, and best practices in respiratory care education
- Lead the accreditation processes, including data collection, reporting, and continuous quality improvement activities consistent with CoARC standards
- Assist with student recruitment, advising, retention, and monitoring of student outcomes
- Collaborate in scheduling courses and coordinating program operations
- Convene and lead with the program advisory committee and clinical partners to support program effectiveness and community alignment
- Lead the program assessment activities, including analysis of student performance and outcomes data to inform program improvements
- Maintain current knowledge of developments in respiratory care, healthcare delivery, and educational practices
Faculty ResponsibilitiesTeaching- Teach undergraduate courses in the BSRT program
- Support student learning, clinical preparation, and readiness for credentialing and licensure
- Incorporate evidence-based and student-centered teaching approaches
ScholarshipMaintain personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences (CHS) scholarship requirements for clinical-track faculty. Clinical-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda and may achieve this by working with other faculty. Scholarly work is expected to make a contribution to, and an impact on, the profession/field/discipline, to interdisciplinary areas, and/or to pedagogical endeavors.
ServiceAll CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions. Engagement in service activities at multiple levels is required. The quality and impact of service contributions are more important than the number of different service activities.
QualificationsRequired QualificationsClinical- or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor- Minimum academic degree:
- For clinical-track positions, a Master's degree from an accredited institution
- For tenure-track positions, a PhD or equivalent
- Active credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care, or MD/DO credential
- Current professional licensure or certification, as applicable
- Four years of professional experience as an RRT or physician, including at least two years in clinical respiratory care or a related area
- Two years of teaching experience in respiratory care, healthcare, or a related field
To be considered for Associate Professor:Clinical-Track Associate Professor- Must meet all requirements for Clinical-Track Assistant Professor, AND:
- Have five years of professional experience as an RRT or physician
- Demonstrate clinical scholarship activities
- Have experience with clinical program development
Tenure-Track Associate Professor- Must meet all requirements for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, AND:
- Have five years of combined experience in teaching and research at a four-year institution or comprehensive university
Desired Qualifications- Experience with respiratory therapy accreditation processes or program assessment
- Experience in curriculum development or program evaluation
- Experience in academic or clinical education settings
- Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats
- Evidence of potential for professional growth and contributions to the field
