Qualifications

Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervises and coordinates the delivery of cardiopulmonary services on assigned shift. Ensures optimal productive utilization of personnel with respect to work and safety requirements. Monitors staffing/scheduling and makes adjustments, as warranted. Acts as a technical resource for staff members. Performs employee evaluations and administers corrective action in collaboration with Department Director and Human Resources. Participates in patient care, staff education, orientation, competency assessment and in-service activities. Monitors the performance of the Blood Gas Laboratory, and reviews the on-going analysis of patient samples, Quality Control samples, calibrations, linearity, and operation of analyzers. Performs corrective action on analyzers, as required, and documents actions taken. Participates in proficiency testing for the Blood Gas Laboratory, evaluating staff performance and competency, and CQI activities. Participates in interdisciplinary and administrative meetings, as directed, and helps to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Performs all Essential Functions as listed. Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations. Uses respiratory care equipment, prepares medication and supplies; disassembles, cleans and reassembles equipment. The incumbent is responsible for responding to Code Blue situations and providing appropriate intervention including, but not limited to BLS and airway management; provides endotracheal intubation to adult, pediatric and newborn patients, if certified. Is responsible for providing quality care to patients who require respiratory care expertise. The incumbent staff member also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on his or her assigned unit; this includes neonates/infants and child/pediatric patients in the Emergency Department. He or she must be able to assess and interpret data about patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the specific patient group. Must be able to employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures. Must participate in the Respiratory Protection Program, which may include the wearing of a respirator. This is a non-union position. Pay Scale: $36.71-$43.16/hourly

Requirements:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

As established by the Respiratory Care Board of California to obtain California RCP license.

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of previous clinical/hospital experience desired.

Previous endotracheal intubation experienced preferred, but not required.

Previous oversight of a Blood Gas Laboratory, preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

California State RCP license

Current Adult Intubation certification within 90 days of hire or transfer; annually thereafter

Current AHA ACLS certification within 90 days of hire or transfer; active status thereafter

Current AHA BLS certification

Certification for Blood Gas Sampling and Analysis (DHA issued) within 90 days of hire or transfer; annually thereafter

Member, California Society for Respiratory Care, strongly recommended

Member, American Association for Respiratory Care, strongly recommended

Current NRP certification, strongly recommended

Current PALS certification, strongly recommended

Requirements:

Sexual Harassment training must be completed within 6 months of hire or promotion, and every year thereafter.
