This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Resident Engineer for our San Bernardino, California, or Irvine, California office. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. The position can be located within San Bernardino County, the Inland Empire area, Orange County and Los Angeles County.

The Resident Engineer provides technical leadership for complex construction management projects or programs, supervising construction engineering and inspection activities. This person must be capable of applying diversified knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices and independently making decisions on significant construction engineering problems. Elements to be inspected or monitored may include maintenance of traffic, earthwork, drainage, utility relocation, storm water pollution prevention implementation and compliance, construction of roadway sections, pedestrian and bike facilities, structure elements of work, traffic and lighting improvements, landscape work and other similar activities.

The Resident Engineer includes being a consultant hired by a local agency who performs quality assurance over the contractor's work that involves roadway and structures and who performs the contract's necessary administrative tasks.

WSP has offices in San Bernardino, Riverside, Irvine and Los Angeles. Projects may span multiple disciplines, such as roadway/highway and transit/rail construction.

Your Impact

  • Full understanding of public construction contracts for the state highway system and local agencies


  • Responding to and effectively resolving field construction issues


  • Conducting meetings between contractor, owner, utilities and other project parties


  • Inspecting, documenting, and coordinating field test of construction materials


  • Analyzing construction costs of changed conditions, drafting change orders, and recommending claims dispositions


  • Preparing constructability reviews and reports


  • Assumes responsibility for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects


  • Supervises field inspection and field office personnel


  • Represents projects (clients) at meetings and conferences


  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures


  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BSCE or related Degree


  • Current California PE license


  • Minimum of 12 years of experience, 5 of which are as a Resident Engineer


  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and material
  • Ability to read and completely understand contract documents


  • Valid CA driver's license


  • Experience working with railroads


  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies


  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Caltrans experience a plus


  • Resident Engineer Skills
  • Bridge construction experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
