Full Job Description

Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Reserving Actuary to work in our Stamford office. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office each week.

Role Description

The Actuary will support the estimation of IBNR reserves and experience report analysis for assigned P&C reinsurance lines in support of Corporate Actuarial Service's mission. The role will include performing reserving analyses, preparing supporting exhibits and documentation, communicating results to line of business partners, and working with Finance in support of financial (GAAP and statutory), and management reporting requirements. The Actuary will also support reserving process improvements, actuarial systems, data validation, and special studies.

The following are the primary accountabilities of the position:
• Develop an understanding of the IBNR calculation systems, reserving methods, data sources, and reporting processes used within the department.
• Perform reserving analyses for assigned P&C reinsurance lines, including preparation of loss development reviews, selection and documentation of assumptions, IBNR calculations, and special studies and initiatives.
• Communicate reserving results, data questions, and emerging observations to actuarial team members and, as appropriate, underwriting, marketing, claims, finance, and management stakeholders.
• Support financial, and management reporting activities by preparing actuarial inputs, validating data, and assisting with responses to follow-up questions from finance or other stakeholders.
• Continue progress toward actuarial credentials and apply actuarial exam knowledge to practical reserving, financial reporting, and business problems.
• Participate in reserving department as well as corporate initiatives such as reserving process improvement and financial/accounting system development.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving ability, attention to detail, communication skills, teamwork, willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently toward practical solutions.

Role Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree is required. Prefer a major course of study in actuarial science, statistics or mathematics.
  • Two to five years actuarial P&C experience in insurance or reinsurance. Reserving experience is a plus.
  • 3+ actuarial exams passed; actively taking exams.
  • Strong Excel skills required; experience with Access, Power BI, SQL, VBA, R/Python, or other analytical tools highly desirable.


Salary Range
106,000.00 - 178,000.00 USD
Base payis one component of our total compensation package. In addition to base salary,employees may be eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and visioncoverage, a retirement plan, paid time off, sick leave, holidays, and bonus orincentive compensation, where applicable. The actual rate of pay offered willdepend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, skills,experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and business needs.The compensation range listed reflects the range the Company reasonably expectsto pay for this position at the time of posting.
