DESCRIPTION

The Kidney Genetics, Genomics, and Advanced Models Laboratory at the Mission Bay campus of UCSF is recruiting individuals with expertise in human stem cell culture and in vitro cell model development to serve as a research specialist.

The general responsibilities of this position are as follows:
• iPSC-derived Kidney Organoid Research: The research specialist will conduct kidney disease research using iPSC-derived kidney organoids. Specifically they will improve kidney organoids as models of human kidney disease and enhance ability to conduct genetic and small molecule screens in kidney organoids. Characterization of organoids will be performed using scRNA-seq and immunofluorescence.
• Genetically engineer iPSCs: The research specialist will genetically engineer iPSCs to enable genetic and small molecule screens in kidney organoids.
• CRISPR screens: The research specialist will conduct CRISPR screens in kidney organoids.

Candidates will be expected to work independently and in a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Opportunities for career development will be provided and encouraged. The candidate will report to Gabriel Loeb, MD, PhD, the Principal Investigator of the Kidney Genetics, Genomics, and Advanced Models Laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Appointees should possess significant experience with iPSC culture, generation of iPSC-derived cell types or organoids, and immunofluorescence. Experience with genome engineering of in vitro cell types, scRNA-sequencing, and CRISPR screens is preferred.
• Appointees to the Assistant rank should possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) related to the area of focus or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
• Appointees to the Associate rank should possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) related to the area of focus or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Associate Specialists are normally expected to have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
