The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Research Manager, UNLV International Gaming Institute

ROLE of the POSITION

Reporting to the IGI Director of Research, this position supports IGI's research mission through independent and collaborative work across the Institute's research portfolio. The role requires strong technical fluency in data science methods—including large-scale behavioral datasets, algorithmic auditing, machine learning, and reproducible data pipelines—alongside traditional research methods like surveys and qualitative analysis. Key responsibilities include leading manuscripts, white papers, and policy briefs; presenting findings to stakeholders and at conferences; writing grants and funding proposals; and supervising research staff (student workers, graduate assistants, postdocs). The Research Manager also supports editorial duties for the Gaming Research and Review Journal and assists with the Institute's triennial International Conference on Gambling and Risk Taking.

BACKGROUND SCREENING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in gaming, hospitality, computer science or other related field and 2-4 years of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date. Position also requires:

Experience working with Institutional Review Boards (IRB)

Experience with working in collaborative teams

Experience working with large high-dimensional datasets

Demonstrated accomplishment of organizing and executing research projects

Proficiency in data analysis and research programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and experience building or maintaining research workflows

Familiarity with data infrastructure and research computing environments (e.g., server administration, cloud platforms, version control, data pipelines).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Awareness of best practices relating to public and private funding for gambling research.

Experience in submitting and acquiring grants and contracts.

Ability to encourage and support entrepreneurial activity.

Ability to work with technical experts (e.g., data engineers) to implement ideas, assign and supervise tasks, and provide guidance on executing data engineering and management tasks.
