Full Job Description
About the role

Following our successful expansion into the U.S. and continued growth across Europe, we are seeking an AI Engineer to help drive our AI Open Source function from our Austin, Texas hub.

Reporting directly to our Head of AI, this person will play a critical role prototyping, building, and debugging the AI-specific parts of our product, embedded within a product squad alongside more senior engineers.

This is not a general full-stack or product engineering role from day one, you'll work in the AI layer: prompts, agents, retrieval, and model behavior, embedded within product squads building an AI-powered product that is transforming how clinical trials are run. You'll help prototype, build, and debug prompts, agent behavior, and AI-driven product features while learning how our platform, harness, and model layers fit together with plenty of support and mentorship along the way. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced biotech AI startup at an early stage of its growth, as we continue expanding our US presence.

Who We're Looking For

Someone who considers themselves an AI engineer first, not a generalist who's dabbled in AI. They're energized by direct customer impact, are fast learners comfortable with incomplete information, and thrive switching between projects while enjoying learning from senior teammates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within product squads to help design and ship the AI-specific parts of product features
  • Support rapid prototyping of agent behaviors and tool integrations to validate ideas with real users and data
  • Help build multi-step agent workflows for product use cases
  • Help integrate platform and model capabilities into product experiences
  • Assist in implementing guardrails and safety checks for AI features
  • Debug issues in model and agent behavior with guidance from senior teammates
  • Collaborate with product and design to understand user needs
  • Surface feedback from real-world AI usage to the Platform and AI Scientist teams

Must-haves

  • Degree in Computer Science, with a specialization or concentration in Machine Learning (or equivalent depth gained through coursework/projects)
  • 1-3 years of experience working on AI/ML-powered systems, through internships, projects, or full-time work, this is not a generalist role
  • Working exposure across the modern AI stack: LLM APIs, prompt engineering, agent frameworks, tool calling, RAG/retrieval, and embeddings
  • Foundational understanding of core ML concepts (model behavior, training vs. inference, failure modes)
  • Experience shipping at least one AI- or LLM-powered feature end-to-end
  • Comfort learning unfamiliar parts of an AI system with support
  • Willingness to work directly with customers and stakeholders
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn and take feedback well

Nice-to-Haves

  • Coursework or project experience in fine-tuning, evaluation, or retrieval systems
  • Familiarity with guardrail or safety patterns for AI systems
  • Exposure to customer-facing work (e.g., consulting, support, or similar roles)
  • Experience in healthcare, biotech, or another regulated industry

Why Join Us?

  • A dynamic work environment with an international team, where collaboration and diversity thrive.
  • Work alongside top talent, united by a shared purpose and committed to making a real impact.
  • Get equipped with a MacBook to enhance your productivity and work experience.
  • Benefits package designed to support you and your family's overall well-being.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options beginning on the first of the month following hire.
  • Hybrid work model offering flexibility to balance your professional and personal life.
  • Company events to celebrate achievements and enjoy time together.
  • Our office is pet-friendly! You'll likely be greeted by a few wagging tails upon arrival.
