Description

The University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor to join ChemMatCARS.

ChemMatCARS, affiliated with the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, the University of Chicago and funded by NSF, is a national synchrotron X-ray user facility located at Sector 15 of the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. ChemMatCARS provides cutting-edge synchrotron X-ray facilities to support molecular science and engineering research, specializing in advanced chemical and materials crystallography, liquid and soft matter interface science, and anomalous small- and wide-angle scattering.

The Research Assistant Professor will serve as a Beamline Scientist and will be expected to originate scientific research and engage in scientific collaborations, develop new techniques, and support existing synchrotron radiation studies at ChemMatCARS. The term of the appointment will be for up to three years with the possibility of renewal. This position is expected to start on or about January 1, 2027.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics, Materials Science, or related field.
  • A minimum of five years, beyond PhD training, conducting independent experimental research at a synchrotron x-ray facility.
  • Must be able to fulfill requirements for access to Argonne National Laboratory and the Advanced Photon Source.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with interfacial X-ray scattering techniques.
  • Experience with interpretation of X-ray reflectivity data.
  • Experience with supported bio-membrane preparation and characterization.
