Remote | Chemistry Expert (PhD/Master's)
We are sharing a specialised opportunity for advanced chemistry researchers and graduate-level experts to contribute to large language model evaluation and training through complex chemistry problem design, rigorous scientific reasoning, and high-quality solution development.
Selected professionals will create and solve advanced chemistry problems, develop clear step-by-step explanations, work with chemical equations, reaction mechanisms, diagrams, and other scientific representations, and contribute expert insight to AI evaluation workflows spanning postgraduate and doctoral-level chemistry.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Chemistry Problem Development
• Design challenging chemistry problems across advanced subject areas
• Create tasks requiring multi-step scientific reasoning
• Develop problems involving quantitative and conceptual analysis
• Incorporate equations, diagrams, structures, and visual representations
• Maintain suitable difficulty across postgraduate and doctoral-level topics
Scientific Reasoning & Solution Development
• Solve complex chemistry problems accurately and systematically
• Produce detailed step-by-step solutions
• Explain assumptions, calculations, and intermediate reasoning clearly
• Apply structured analytical methods to advanced chemistry scenarios
• Present conclusions in a format suitable for evaluation and review
Reaction, Equilibrium & Quantitative Analysis
• Analyse complex organic reaction mechanisms
• Explain reaction pathways using text and chemical structures
• Solve equilibrium and reaction-progress problems
• Interpret thermodynamic and energy-diagram relationships
• Evaluate stoichiometric and electrochemical problems where relevant
Model Evaluation & Benchmark Development
• Create chemistry tasks that probe advanced model capabilities
• Identify areas where language models struggle with scientific reasoning
• Evaluate performance on abstraction and multi-step problem solving
• Contribute to the development of chemistry-focused benchmarks
• Refine evaluation criteria based on observed model behaviour
Research Collaboration & Technical Communication
• Collaborate remotely with research and technical teams
• Explain complex chemistry concepts in accessible language
• Provide constructive feedback and detailed annotations
• Communicate scientific reasoning using text, visuals, and diagrams
• Work independently while maintaining consistent project quality
Ideal Profile
• Currently pursuing or holding a Ph.D. or postdoctoral position in Chemistry or a related discipline
• Advanced candidates from Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or closely related fields are also relevant
• Strong foundation in advanced chemistry at graduate or doctoral level
• Expertise may include analytical chemistry
• Background in biochemistry or chemical biology is relevant
• Experience in nuclear or radiochemistry is valuable
• Materials and applied chemistry expertise is welcome
• Environmental chemistry backgrounds are relevant
• Strong knowledge of physical chemistry is valuable
• Organic and inorganic chemistry expertise is highly relevant
• Strong research and analytical capabilities
• Ability to solve complex chemistry problems using a structured approach
