About The RoleWe're seeking a highly motivated
Regulatory Counsel to oversee Fora's global regulatory compliance, including data and privacy. This is a strategic role in a high-growth technology environment presenting an opportunity to own and build the regulatory and compliance framework for international expansion. As Fora's international footprint grows, this role will have the opportunity to build and lead a regulatory compliance function, including hiring additional regulatory operations support.
Key ResponsibilitiesLegal & Regulatory Strategy- Lead and evaluate regulatory research and corporate structuring to inform the international expansion strategy
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the International Team in evaluating new markets, and providing pragmatic guidance that enables business priorities
- Assess licensing and compliance requirements (e.g., package travel regulations, payments, data privacy regimes, seller-of-travel laws) for each target market and translate them into clear, actionable requirements for the business
- Manage and coordinate local counsel across multiple jurisdictions, synthesizing their input into a coherent internal strategy with clear recommendations for internal stakeholders
- Build lightweight, scalable processes for monitoring regulatory changes across active and prospective markets
Operations- Digest regulatory and legal requirements into tangible requirements and partner with International, Product and Operations teams on implementation
- Review training materials and resources to ensure advisors understand their local licensing/regulatory responsibilities
- Develop policies, playbooks, legal templates and frameworks that standardize regulatory operations across markets
- Help define the long-term organizational structure and capabilities needed to support Fora's global regulatory obligations
Compliance- Provide compliance oversight, including conducting risk assessments and driving compliance initiatives that ensure we're operating effectively while adhering to applicable laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Engage with regulators and manage responses to examinations/audits
- Stay current on legal and regulatory developments to inform senior leaders of business impacts and keep Fora ahead of its compliance obligations
- Establish systems and controls to ensure Fora fulfills legal and regulatory obligations to remain in good standing as its international footprint expand
- Own business registrations/qualifications and annual/periodic filings and reporting obligations (license renewals, bonding/trust reporting, etc.), keeping the company in good standing as we expand
Requirements- 6+ years of legal/compliance and regulatory operations experience (combined Big Law and in-house in a startup, technology or other dynamic environment)
- J.D.
- Experience with market entry or product expansion in a travel tech, fintech, healthcare, e-commerce/marketplace or other highly regulated industry
- Commercial with excellent judgment balancing legal and business risk with appropriate escalations
- Clear, effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build trusted relationships
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, cross-functional workflows, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Enthusiastic with proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, resourcefulness and willingness to step in where needed to fill gaps
- Ability to work in the U.S.
Strongly Preferred- Experience supporting privacy/security, AI and other emerging tech transactional considerations
- Knowledge of travel industry-specific regulations (ATOL, Package Travel Regulations in EU/UK and seller of travel regulations)
- Experience coordinating outside/local counsel across multiple jurisdictions
CompensationCompensation for this role varies based on experience, with an indicative range of $200K-$240K + equity. Final compensation will depend on the level at which the candidate is hired, as we're considering multiple levels for this role.
