Job DescriptionThe Clinical Research Nurse will work independently to support studies in the Human Imaging Core and the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of nursing care for research and clinical patients who are being evaluated on radiology scanners and/or participating in research studies conducted by or in conjunction with the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging.
- Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe care to patients within the department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging
- Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team including nurses, technologists, physicians, scientists, research coordinators, graduate students, pharmacists, and lab technicians from within radiology as well as other departments across UCSF.
- Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required
- Carries out research duties as required including maintaining integrity of protocol implementation, accurate data collection and coordination, and coordination with other research staff to ensure continuity of care of participants.
- Ensures patients are safely screened for radiology procedures including MRI and Nuclear Medicine scans.
- Provides clear and detailed education to patients regarding their procedures and any necessary prep instructions.
- Provides direction to other team members regarding patient safety and protocol adherence. Examples include safety screening procedures for imaging or infusion studies and protocols for Point-of-Care testing.
- Maintains knowledge of a wide array of research protocols, particularly regarding nursing tasks and patient safety.

Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required including Vital Sign Collection, EKG collection, Blood collection, History and Physical, Patient Assessments, Urinalysis, IV Placement, Central Line Access, Patient Positioning, Patient education, medication administration, etc.
Carries out research duties as required including maintaining integrity of protocol implementation, accurate data collection and coordination, and coordination with other research staff to ensure continuity of care of participants.
Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision including those receiving investigational new drugs.
Provides clear and detailed education to patients regarding their procedures and any necessary prep instructions.
Assists with the management of patient care administered on imaging scanners within the Department of Radiology and research studies conducted by or in conjunction with the department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging.
Screens patients to ensure there is no contraindication to the imaging and for general patient safety. Ensures patients are safely screened for radiology procedures including MRI and Nuclear Medicine scans as well as radiopharmaceutical infusions.
Maintains proper stocks of drugs, supplies, etc.

The total sum should add up to 100%.)QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a hospital inpatient, radiology, or infusion center setting.
- Ability to communicate well with other team members, research groups, clinical staff, patients, and their families. Willingness to provide assistance to other team members when needed.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to safely work near MRI, CT, PET, and SPECT scanners as well as radiopharmaceuticals.
- Ability to safely set up equipment for procedures and position patient on the scanner table.
- Ability to coordinate tasks among a variety of studies and multiple patients.
- Ability to go between multiple sites in a given shift.
- Excellent IV skills.
- • Experience completing a nursing history that includes patient and family medical history, psychosocial, cultural factors, nutritional and special needs of the patient's physical status within department timeframes.
PLLicenses / Certifications- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California.
- Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
PPreferred Qualifications- Completion of MRI safety Level II and Radiation Safety Trainings.
- Experience in an outpatient/ambulatory care setting.
- Experience in radiology clinical research experience.
- Experience with MRI and Radiation safety procedures and screening, including implementation in outpatient setting.
- Experience working around radioactive materials and caring for patients receiving investigational radionucleotide infusions and radiotracers.
- Experience administering imaging contrast agents via hand injection and power injector.
- Experience with consenting for clinical trials.
- Experience/Familiarity with a variety of patient populations.
- Maintains knowledge base consistent with new technology, procedures, and interventions specific to patient groups and their families.
