Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Vascular Access Team to join the team. This role will be full-time; 3-12-hour shifts (Monday-Friday); 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM; with rotating weekends and holidays. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Registered Nurse (RN) Vascular Access Team Job Responsibilities:
  • Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs
  • Participates in the planning of routine transitional health care needs and responds to changes in patient's needs and holistic caring
  • Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care and determines immediate priorities and offers solutions for problems
  • Performs psychosocial and physiologic assessments that integrate changing data as documented in procedure notes
  • Monitors the EKG, hemodynamic variances, and other physiologic data during the procedure
  • Selects appropriate instruments and supplies based on a patient presentation during the procedure and maintains proper sterile technique throughout the procedure
  • Updates primary RN with the ability to use line, type of line placed, and any special considerations (eg. gauze dressing or clotting dressing used)
  • Immediately recognizes and responds to adverse clinical situations and directs others to assist in a favorable patient outcome
  • Documents entire procedure, including complications, equipment used, medications administered as part of the patient's permanent record
  • Serves as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to health care team members in educating on infection control, care and maintenance of the inserted device, and clinical resource in troubleshooting
  • Effectively manages supply usage by anticipating supply needs during the procedure and effectively maintain supplies within the lab
  • Calibrates, operates and troubleshoots a wide variety of equipment and instruments
  • Identifies own learning needs based on self-evaluation and the progress made from the previous year's goals
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development activities (beyond orientation) and attends services/seminars related to the field and maintains own Employee Continuing Education Record
  • May perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Experience: Experience assessing and placing peripheral access including Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), Midline Catheters, and Peripheral IV's
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association; VA-BC certification must be obtained within 15 months of hire. This timeframe includes the one year of experience required for board eligibility and the 90-day period to obtain certification after meeting the minimum eligibility requirements.
  • Licenses: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience: Experience with PICC and midline placement; comfortable using ultrasound guidance for vascular access.
